Right Into Reading

Dear Parents,

What a wonderful week we have had celebrating worlds between the pages. We were very lucky on Tuesday to have our Headmaster, Mr Bradley Fenner, Head of Preparatory School , Mr Neil Andary, Director of Teaching and Learning, Mr Ben Evans and our very own Director, Ms Melanie Garland come and read to classes, sharing favourite books from their own childhood. It was wonderful for our children to meet members of staff from the wider college and was also a fantastic opportunity for those staff members to begin to know our children.

On Wednesday the children were entertained by a rag tag bunch of amateur theatre players and notorious narrator  (Ms Garland, Mr Charlwood, Mrs Rocca and Mrs Prest and Mrs Mel Bishop,) who performed the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. There were laughs all around as Mr Charlwood donned his bright pink fur and a pair of maracas and as Mrs Prest affected most accents found in the British Isles! We had a wonderful time and it was fabulous for the children to see that the staff also like to put on costumes and get up and perform as much as they do.

On Thursday we joined the Prep School in a reading flash mob on the top oval in the warm spring sunshine.

We saved the best for last with our annual dress up day on Friday. We would like to hugely thank our wonderfully supportive parent body who really got behind our book theme. You are all to be congratulated on your efforts, we know how hard it is to convince a four year old to choose something other than a movie character. We were thrilled with both the turn out and the understanding the children had of their book characters.

Thanks again and happy reading
