UNFORTUNATELY DUE TO  UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES THE MEAD CLASSROOM CANNOT PUBLISH THEIR BLOG FOR THE WEEK.

SINCERE APOLOGIES TO OUR MEAD PARENTS AND FRIENDS.

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND

Langley

Langley Families

This week the Langley children have shown a particular interest in letters. We have been hunting for squishy letters in our sensory tray and thinking of words that start with the same letter. Some friends have even been practicing writing letters and their names using their locker tags. This has been a great experience for children to begin to think about the relationship between letters and sounds and understand how symbols are a powerful means of communication in or world.

Also this week some of our Langley children had their transition visit to the Cooper room. The children had a great time exploring their new classroom, playing in the big yard and getting to know their new teachers Miss Gilbert and Mr Ty.

Miss Erin was in again this week helping us with our dance moves. We will be having a Dancify concert next Friday 1st July (9-10:30am - Langley and Wilkins will be performing 9-9:30am). Everyone is welcome to participate and attend if you would like to see what we have been learning, however if your child does not usually attend on Fridays they must be accompanied by an adult.

Stay warm this weekend

Edgerley

Dear Edgerley Parents and boys,

The wet weather has not dampened the boys enthusiasm or energy this week! The Edgerley Salon is continuing to pump away with satisfied customers arriving disheveled and exiting looking very sleek. Mrs McKenzie headed in for a spruce and was pampered and looked after beyond belief. She would highly recommend it for anyone in need of a mo-hawk, colour or cut.

With the end of term getting closer the boys have had yet another transition visit on Wednesday and those who will be graduating have been making their graduation hats ready for the big occasion next Thursday in the Chapel.

We have many budding architects in the room who have been displaying incredible construction and design talent with house and "worm catcher" construction with the large waffle blocks and small wooden blocks in the outdoor environment. Those whose interest don't lie in construction have been cooking up a storm in the sandpit, with great discussions as to menu, ingredients, measurements and cooking temperatures.

With the wet weather, the discussion around worms has continued with particular interest in their habitat and the rains impact on this:

It's dark, dirty and underground - David
It's even slimy because its mud - Varish
Its very dark like a night time - William
The seeds of the plant are the roof of it (the worm house) - Oscar
The water melts the dirt - Tommy
The water soaks into the dirt onto the worms - Sylas
They hold their breath underground and when it rains they come out to take a breath - David
They have lights in there (underground) - Tommy
They dig with their head. They don't need to breathe through a mouth. they don't have a mouth. They breathe through their whole body - William

We look forward to many more worm investigations next week!

Best wishes,

Emma, Mel and Ty

Wilkins

Dear Wilkins families and friends,
What another wonderful week we have had in the room. This week in the Wilkins room we have been focusing on the weather.
The children really enjoy listening to the rain falling on the roof of our classroom and watching it fill our outdoor area up.
We have been busy making cloud prints on the windows with cotton balls and blue collage materials and also making puffy paint clouds.
We love using the puffy paint. We make a batter using self- raising flour and salt and put it into a squeeze bottle before making our creations. We then place it in the microwave to create the clouds.
We have also been enjoying some of the new stories we received at our Grandies day! Our favorites include Stuck in the Muck and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.
We even have our own mud pit that our animals keep getting stuck in. Lucky we are able to rescue them all!
Miss Ellen is lucky enough to be taking a nice holiday to Greece. Miss Ellen will leave on the 7th of July and will be away for six weeks. During this time Miss Kim will be working as well as some familiar relief staff. We hope Miss Ellen has an amazing time and we can’t wait to see some photo’s.
If you have any spare undies, jumpers or pants that belong to the ELC can you please return them ASAP as we are running low in our spares cupboard.
Can you also please ensure you are packing a labelled spare change of your clothes for your child in case of any accidents or messy/wet play!
Enjoy your weekend,
Jess, Kim, Nicole, Ellen and Georgia

Chapple

Chapple Families

This week we were lucky enough to have Peter the Policeman came into to talk to us about keeping safe.

We tried to remember some of his tips.

Banjo: Put on a helmet.

Addison: Put a life jacket on when on a boat.

Christopher: Put on a hat to protect you.

Tate: Call 000, but just in an emergency.

William: For fire trucks and the police.

Lucy: And ambulance.

He told us how we can identify a policeman and what to do if we get lost. He even let us go in the police car and turn the siren and lights on!

We have continued our inquiry into owls and we have made some lovely owls. We even used puppets to retell the story of the “Owl Babies”

The Chapple room picnic was a great success apparently, lots of happy children on the photos.

 Kind regards

Martin Charlwood

Angwin

Dear Parents and Friends,

This week we have been continuing our investigations into writing and letters. We have been exploring some simple data collection of our favourite things. As a class we are considering what it means to be a good friend… there have been a few games, especially outside where some children are feeling left out.

Our investigations have led us to observe some You Tube clips of underwater divers.. and then to make some diver’s outfits… and even to build an airport for Sidney and Denver’s incredible plane! Our friend Teddy is off on a plane to Austria and Oliver’s dad is en route to Vancouver in Canada, and Harry H’s dad is on his way to Sydney so we have created our own class airport and have so much to share and discuss!

This week for show and tell, Harrison brought his baby brother George in for us to meet… The children loved having cuddles with Baby George and here are some of their comments…

Harrison: His name is George Arthur Geoffrey Silvy
Denver: How old is he?
Harrison: Six weeks
Teddy: That wasn’t big was it
Denver: I used to have a dummy, I had two no three
Harrison: It keeps them safe and not cry
Oliver: I like the blue dummy
Antonio: I have a dummy at my home
Jack: I know a thing about babies, you put their dummies in to stop them crying
Teddy: I know what babies do they poo
Harrison: I walk away and you (Lucy) change his nappy
Isaac: Do you know once on the way home from Victoria Park I sucked a dummy in my mouth. On the way home from Newland Park I went in the pram coz I was tired.
Harrison: I had a red pram. I hold him and rock him.

We wish Coral all the best for her final teaching prac, starting next week. We will all miss you enormously! Our Chinese teacher Wen- Ting will be joining the class as a co-educator during this time.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend.. Keep warm!

Kind Regards,

Pip and Coral

Mattingley

Dear Mattingley families and friends,

What an amazing week we have had in our classroom . You can not believe how many fires our courage's Mattingley fire department have put out. They have saved the ELC many times, working together, negotiating turns and having lots and lots of fun.

Come quick there is a fire! over there in the table corner. Come quick!- Amelia

You have to wear a hat to protect head when you fight the fire. And you need a gas tank. That helps you breath- Felix

Point the hose at the fire- Ashton

Look there's a fire over there! Come quickly- Sidney

Quick Dosh (Josh) quick. There dire (fire) up there- Jed

Fire, fire. I squirt fire higent (hydrant)- Josh S

I help too- Daniel

I see the fire. Call the fire truck- Lachlan B

We can see the children taking what they have learnt about fire safety so far and incorporating it into their play. There is not always enough room in our fire trucks for all the children, so we have thought about other important jobs there are within a fire department. We know that it is important for someone to man the phones so they can raise the alarm. Then there is the very important job of sounding the alarm. We have also spoken about what fire fighters do when they arrive at a fire, using safety equipment to keep them safe as they fight fires. We are looking forward to the Belair CFS bringing their fire truck on Monday so we can learn more about the very special job that they do in keeping our community safe not only when there is a fire, but during other emergencies too.

We hope that you all have a safe weekend. Stay warm and dry.

Cooper

Dear Cooper families,
Our rocket ship in the classroom continues to be a popular place for the children to explore and engage in imaginative play scenarios with their peers. As we continue to learn more about our Solar System, the children’s conversations and adventures in the Cooper space ship become more elaborate and reflect the children’s developing knowledge of Space.
This week, many children have been keen to test their skills to find out how tall they can build a wooden block tower. This curiosity and determination to build the tallest tower was provoked by an experience set up in the outside area that had laminated pictures of tall buildings which the children could use to guide their own designs.  From here we started to use mathematical language such as tall, taller, tallest and short, shorter and shortest to describe the towers. During the week the children had competitions to see who could build the tallest tower. The children used dispositions such as problem solving, persistence and trial and error. We incorporated mathematical concepts into the experience by comparing and ordering our towers and counting how many blocks each person had used.
We will be having a transition visit on Wednesday the 22nd of June from 9:00am – 11:00am. This visit is only for the children who attend ELC on a Wednesday.
We are also going to have a Class Party to celebrate our time together in the Cooper room. This will be held at 2:00pm – 3:00pm on the 30th of June in the Cooper room.  All children and parents are welcome to attend the party, even if it is not their regular day. Afternoon tea will be provided.
On the 1st of July we will be having our Dancify Concert, which will be held in the Town Square at 9:30am. Everyone is welcome to participate in the concert even if it is not their regular day.
We hope you have a lovely weekend. Try and stay warm!

Cooper

Hi Cooper families,
We had engaged in some messy play this week. This initially started as a colour mixing activity and soon became a gooey science experiment! We were using coloured water and cornflour to explore colour mixing when we noticed that when we stirred the ingredients together it turned into a gooey mess.
We are getting well-rehearsed in our dance moves through Dancify. It is evident from the excitement and enthusiasm in the children’s dance moves that the Cooper class are thoroughly enjoying these sessions. It was great to see the children confidently trying new moves and freestyling their own individual dance moves. There will be a Dancify concert held on the 1st of July in the Town Square where the children will perform the dances that we have been practicing.
Happy Birthday to Zara Brown and Lewis Jackson who both turned 4 this week! We hope that you both had wonderful birthdays.

Love Miss Gilbert and Miss C

Wilkins

Dear Wilkins friends and family,

This week in the Wilkins class we have had a strong focus on Animals and reptiles. We have recently acquired some new resources which included Jungle Duplo and it has been wonderful watching the children share these with one another and create their own little jungles. Throughout term one we focused on the book 'Walking through the jungle', and we researched the names of different animals found in the wild which many of them are now applying in their dramatic play. Miss Georgia has also been sharing with the children her knowledge about reptiles. Many of you would have met her pet snake Jerry which the children have been watching closely in the Langley room.

As some of our children are preparing to take the next step up in their early learning education, we have been doing some visits to the Junior school library. Throughout the children's experience at Prince Alfred ELC we nurture them as much as possible during transition periods to ensure they have some familiarity, especially for routines when they go into their new classrooms. As the children will be having weekly Library visits, as well as extra curricular activities such as physical education we have been able to enjoy these experiences with them too. It is wonderful to get the children interested and excited about learning to read early and the staff in the library have been a great help.

Finally as some of you may have seen or heard we have been having regular visits from Erin a member of Dancify. In addition to dancing be a great physical activity, it is also a highly social activity. Dance lessons can help children Improve their social and communication skills, learn how to work as part of a team, develop greater sense of trust and cooperation and make new friends.

We look forward to seeing you during the week,

Mrs Jess, Mrs Nicole, Miss Georgia, Miss Ellen and Miss Kim

Chapple

Chapple Families

Stories continue to be a wonderful avenue into early literacy and creativity for the children. They also give us opportunities to role play and practice our social skills.

The Rainbow Fish was a great hit and we made a huge rainbow fish for our classroom.  We also used it to think about being nice to other people and sharing. The children had great fun being the fish and practicing asking with “Please” and “Thank you.”

Dancify came again and we once again had great fun dancing to the music.

It has been great to hear about children making connection to their learning at home, please continue to share your stories with us. It was great to see William bring in a painting of signs he had seen in a walk around his neighborhood.

The story “Max” taught us about friendship and the children made great connections to their work on signs.

Max: ( a seagull) had to find his friend Bob who owned a fish and chip shop.

Kian: Maybe he couldn’t spot the building.

Benji: Maybe he has binoculars.

Maxime: Maybe he can see the sign, it’s a chip on top of the shop.

William: Maybe he can smell the chips, that would be a sign.
