Langley

Dear Langley friends and families,

What another busy week we have had for our final week of the holiday program. Once again we have kept cool with lots of water play. We are loving our new extra large play space now that the fence has been removed.

This week we have been having transition visits to the Mattingley room and have had so much fun exploring our new classroom. The staff in Langley will certainly miss us!

Inside we have enjoyed play dough, rolling and making different shapes. Playing with the dinosaurs in the large tray and looking at our pictures on our family tree. If you haven’t already, could you please bring in or email us a family photo to add to our tree! Please send to glyng@pac.edu.au

We have also welcomed a few new friends into the Langley room this week and we have been so proud of how welcoming everyone has been.

We hope you all enjoy your long weekend and stay cool!

From Nicole, Chelsea and Georgia

Edgerley and Angwin

Hello Edgerley and Angwin friends and family!

This week the Edgerley and Angwin classrooms have joined forces for this week of the school holiday program… And what a week it has been!

Believe or not, its officially the end of our school holiday program… Where did the time go? We hope you all had the opportunity to let your hair down and relax over the holiday period, and are just as excited as we are to kick off Term One on Monday next week.

The children in the Edgerley and Angwin classroom have had an excellent week of experiences. We have experimented with hand-made boats, constructed a monstrous volcano in the sandpit, got our hands messy in some very sparkly slime, and created some artistic masterpieces with our crayons and spray paints.

As a class, we have spent some time reflecting on the holiday period that has just past… We asked the children ‘what was your favourite thing about your holidays?’… And here are some of their responses…

I was playing with my sister, and we play with something – Alexander
I saw a statue and a lantern with Mum and Dad – Yash
I played with lots and lots of Lego - Daniel
I had lots of fun. I played with my Grandies – Samuel
I had a holiday and a camp at Tarrawong, then we had some parties with and Ma and Pa at my cousin’s house – Isaac B
I got to spend some time with my Dad at my home - Jason
I make a car with the Mobilo – Aiden
I just got to eat fish and chips and stuff like that – Nicholas
I liked just staying at my home, and playing with my Mum and Dad and brother – Hamish
I liked making with the Hama Beads… I made a rectangle with red and white – Walter.
I liked making a submarine and played with it in the blue water – Seb A
I liked it when we went to the playground – Aaron

We look forward to seeing you all next week, as our teachers arrive back from their holidays, and Term One officially begins.

Much love,

Mr Richards, Miss Jana, and Miss Connie

Cooper

Dear Cooper Room Families and Friends,

During our final week of the summer program the Cooper children explored music and movement. Drums, tambourines, maracas and bells were used to accompany music played on the iPod. They sang along to familiar songs and demonstrated their beautiful flowy and free-spirited moves.

Lucy – I’m playing a tall standing up drum, watch me bang, bang.
Sebastian – I’m using a stick to play my drum and I can sit down and hold this one.
Yichen – My hands make music.
Grace – My tambourine can shake like bells.

Maddie and myself have set up the classroom ready for a refreshing and fun packed term. We look forward to seeing you all next week.

Happy Australia Day Weekend!

Cris and Rosalie

Wilkins

Dear Wilkins families and friends

This week has been great fun for our small group who spent their time exploring outdoors and indoor.

You may notice the workshop fence has been removed and extended the 2’s playground so now their outdoor play area looks huge. The children loved discovering this open area.  They chose to play in the home corner, block building, driving the wooden cars, digging in the sandpit and going up and down the climbing equipment.

Water play is always one of the Wilkins children's favourite activities. They were splashing the sea creatures - whales, octopus and dolphins - up and down in the water. Then they brought some pots and plates to throw into the water, then scooping up water and pouring it out. It was great to see the way they enjoyed water play in this hot weather.

Indoor, a couple of the children were interested in the train activity. They used the crane to lift the train compartment and then drove the train through the tunnel. They shared the trains with their friends and were playing nicely.

Kobe: It’s my daddy car.
Kush: I got train. Chuff, Chuff. Count train 1,2,3,4. It’s crane.
Angus B: Ball, More, Stop, Stop.

We would also like to welcome our new friends who will begin their new life adventure in our Wilkins room. We look forward in sharing great times and having lots of fun together.

Have a wonderful long weekend and we look forward to seeing you all next week when the new term starts.

Mead

Dear Mead 2018 families and friends,

This week’s transition visits have been a wonderful experience for our children. It has been great to get to know them and Mrs Catt and I are excited for the Term ahead.

We have welcomed some new friends to the ELC who came for some friendly plays this week and we can already see some friendships being off to a good start.

The time we had with Mrs Catt this week got the children very excited and we had lots of singing, painting, cooking with play dough and of course, outside play.

We are going to welcome Term 1 of 2018 with full steam ahead loaded with fun adventures, discoveries and learning. Here are a few snapshots of our week in the Mead Room. We thank Ms Ellen and Ms Courtenay for helping us with our move this week.

Mattingley

Dear Mattingley families and friends,

This week the children have had their transition visits to the Angwin Room. They have settled in very well in their new environment as they engaged in different activities and met some new friends who will be joining us this year also.

The children used their imagination and created their own 'dinosaur land' using the wooden blocks, pine cones, rocks and stones. They all worked together and used their problem solving skills to build their creation.

Home corner play was a highlight this week as the children enjoyed role playing in the kitchen pretending to be chefs and cooking delicious meals for their friends and teachers. The felt boards were used to create imaginative stories and the children were very busy at the craft table being creative using boxes and different materials.

We look forward to the term starting next Monday.

Have a great weekend,
Liana and Kerry

Chapple

Dear Chapple Families and Friends,

We have been staying cool with lots of water play this week! What better way to stay cool then to run under a spinning sprinkler on the outside grass, explore with the sea creatures with coloured blue water in the troph, create tunnels and waterfalls in the sandpit and splash in the water rock fountain!

Crazy hair day, the children were nearly unrecognisable! Blue, Yellow and Pink coloured hair some with a touch of red and green glitter. This was lots of fun!!!

We finished the week with a movie and popcorn ensuring to give Mrs Kaur lots of hugs as it is her last day, we wish her all the best on her new exciting adventure. She will be greatly missed.

One more week before the term ends. A reminder that the ELC is closed Friday the 26th as it is a Public Holiday.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

Miss Elodie and Mrs Kaur

Cooper

Dear Cooper Families and Friends,

The hot weather this week gave us the opportunity to partake in lots of water play. Many of the children enjoyed running through the sprinkler in the mornings, even Miss Sharon and Miss Ruggiero couldn't resist running through the sprinkler. Some of the children also used water in the sandpit, mud kitchen and large trough.

This week the children have also had the opportunity to do some bubble paintings. Using straws they blew into the paint jars until bubbles appeared at the top of the jar.  They then placed their piece of paper on top of the jar so the paint bubbles would print onto the paper. They used an array of colours and created some beautiful artwork. The children were really proud of their efforts and enjoyed blowing lots of colourful bubbles.

Lucy - That so big!
Eddie S. - Woah!
Eddie N. - Bubble, bubble, bubble!

After we had played outside on Thursday morning it was time to escape the heat. The Mattingley class joined us for a movie and the children enjoyed watching A Bug's Life. During the week we have also been singing the Stretchy Lycra song. As the title suggests we use a large piece of lycra and stretch it as well as bouncing our hands and feet on and under the lycra. The children thoroughly enjoy this and the room is always full of laughter.

We also welcomed Aleah to the Cooper class on Thursday. The children were all very friendly as they introduced themselves. It has been lovely to see them help Aleah explore our fun learning environment.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Sharon & Miss Ruggiero

Langley

Dear Langley family and friends,

We hope you’ve been staying cool during this warm weather, we sure have! The children have enjoyed lots of water play in the water trough, sandpit and on Thursday and Friday the children wore their bathers to ELC and had a great time running around under the sprinkler!

To keep us entertained in the classroom Miss Nicole prepared an art experience using shaving cream and food dye to create a marble affect. After the children were done with this they had fun exploring the different texture of the shaving cream.

We are also caring for the spiny leaf insect from the Wilkins class! The children helped Miss Georgia collect some gum leaves from the tree in the big yard and place them in the tank for our new friend.

Next week the children that will be moving to the Mattingley classroom will be doing full day transitions with their new co-educator Miss Boler, this will begin each day from 9am.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend and stay cool in the hot weather,

Miss Georgia, Miss Nicole and Miss Chelsea
