Mattingley

Dear Mattingley families and friends,
We cannot believe that we are at the end of Term 2 already! Where has the time gone? We have been very busy investigating and exploring with colours and having a wonderful time learning together. Next term our Unit of Inquiry will be ‘Marvellous Machines’ focusing on the central idea, “Machines make things easier”.

On Thursday this week we were lucky to have Ashvin’s Mummy, Kate come in for the afternoon to work on a special project with us. She had enough pairs of shoes for everyone and lots of colourful textures to design and create some wonderful new shoes. Many of the children loved them so much that they wore them to school on Friday. We would like to say a big thank you to Kate for sharing her time with us and organising this wonderful experience. We all had a lot of fun.

If you feel that you have a skill or something to share with the class, even to read a favourite story with us, we would love to welcome you into our class to be a part of our learning at ELC.

Just a quick reminder for the Winter program
As our colour Unit of Inquiry comes to an end, we thought it would be extra fun for the children to come dressed in their casual clothes for a week. Please see the list of what colour clothes to wear each day. Please remember we will still have messy activities available so bring suitable clothes as they may get marks on.

Monday 29th June – Please come dressed in rainbow clothes (such as yellow top, blue pants and red shoes)
Tuesday 30th June – Please come dressed in predominately red clothes

Wednesday 1st July - Please come dressed in predominately blue clothes

Thursday 2nd July - Please come dressed in predominately yellow clothes
Friday 3rd July - Please come dressed in rainbow clothes (such as yellow top, blue pants and red shoes)

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend,

Kimberley and Coral

Chapple

Dear Chapple Families

The Term wraps up with our Dancify showcase and Edgerley Graduation. This now makes us the oldest children in the ELC.   We have also been lucky enough to go to the Senior School to see the Year 7’s racing their CO2 cars.

The new show and tell roster is out for Term 3 and 4 and will be followed early next Term with some more detail on our emerging Numeracy and Literacy work.

Library and PE will continue on the same days for Term 3

Angwin

Dear Angwin Parents and Friends,
This week brought us to the end of our term and the end of our unit on colour. To celebrate, we made a rainbow layer cake. The children helped mix, stir and measure out the ingredients. As we baked, we discussed our eating habits and whether eating cake and sugar is healthy for us.

‘My mummy doesn’t let me eat a lot of sugar. Her parents don’t let her eat sugar.’ Rachel
‘Sugar’s too salty.’ Oscar

‘It’s not good for you.’ Allegra
‘It will make you sick.’ Lucille

‘It will make you go crazy.’ Anthony
The children all agreed that although there is sugar in the cake, which is bad for us, cake is good for us.

‘The sugar makes the dough soft.’ Oscar reasoned.
‘We should eat cake once a week because you can’t eat it every day. You have to get it one day only.’ Aiden

‘You might get sick if you eat it every day because cake has salt in it.’ Arwyn
‘It’s too sweet to eat every day.’ Augie

It was a lovely way to end our unit. We had fun making it, but the best part was eating it! Have a wonderful break and well earned holiday! See you in three weeks!
Love the Angwin Team

Wilkins

Dear Wilkins families and friends,
What a great last week of term two we have had. Farewell and good luck to our friends moving up to the Cooper room next term, we wish you all the best.

This week our friends have been highly interested in building with the big wooden blocks. We have built some houses and garages for our cars and trains in the room.
To finish the term off with our final piece for our unit of enquiry, Mrs Nicole and our Wilkins friends made play-doh. They helped to create two different colours and mix them in their play to see what colour would come to the end result.

Danica – ‘It blue!’
Sienna – ‘Blue’

Paige – ‘It’s warm. Makin ello’

This week we have also been interested in letters. We have been painting with sponge letters and participating in conversation at the art table with our teachers and peers. This experience provides opportunities for our friends to practice colour recognition and extend on their own knowledge.

Sebastien – ‘sssssss for Seb!’

Zali – “T for Toby!’
Samuel – ‘this one is W for what. Here is S for Samuel!’

During the holidays we will be having some extra activities to branch off our interests in the class. Here are some important dates to remember.

INTERNATIONAL MUD WEEKWEEK 1 – please bring your child in old or spare clothes and your uniforms and shoes in their bags.
DISCO WEEKWEEK 2 - Children are encouraged to bring their own favourite cd’s and dressups.
CRAZY HAIRTUESDAY & FRIDAY WEEK 3 – we will be styling crazy hair do’s and children are encouraged to bring coloured hairspray, coloured hair ties, wigs and whatever else is crazy enough to put in your hair.
COOKING DAYWEDNESDAY WEEK 3 – children will be participating in a pizza cooking experience.
We hope you all have a nice weekend and safe holidays.

Love Miss Sarah, Mrs Nicole, Mrs Carla and Miss Ellen xxxx

Cooper

Hello Cooper friends and families,

Well it's hard to believe that we are at the end of a fabulous year together in the Cooper Room. We have thoroughly enjoyed working and learning with all of the children and we wish them all the best in the Edgerley Room.

Over the year the class have flourished and developed into curious, creative and capable learners that thrive when challenged. It has been amazing to see first hand the children experience moments of wonder, strive to succeed and share their accomplishments. All of the children have developed beautiful friendships which we know will continue to grow moving forward.

On Wednesday we celebrated out last week together as a class by having a party. Miss White and Miss C brought in some delicious food for the children to eat,  we chased bubbles and played together. It was wonderful to see the children sitting together, socialising and sharing stories about what they liked to do in the Cooper Room.

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the holidays!

Jain & Cris

Langley

Dear Langley Families and Friend,
This week we have been winding down as it is week 10, the last week of term!

The children have still been enjoying getting creative and messy with the art easel and creating table. We have been painting beautiful stained glass windows and gluing, sticking and drawing.
Some of the Langley girls and boys have been continuing their hammering skills and adding to their amazing piece of work, also gluing a photo of themselves at work on the wood too!
We visited the chickens in the big yard and spoke about how we cant be too noisy or rough as they might get scared!
Next week, the program will continue on just like the school term but we will be relaxing a little and letting our hair down!

WEEK 1 – MUD WEEK!
International Mud Day is on Wednesday and we are celebrating over the whole week. We ask if you could bring your child in OLD spare clothes and gumboots packing their uniform for later in the day.

WEEK 2 – DISCO WEEK!
We would love if your child could bring in their favourite dancing music and even get dressed up in disco clothes!

Week 3 – Pizza and Crazy Hair!
Tuesday 14th July we will be making delicious pizzas together as we have been getting creative in our pizza home corner.

Wednesday 15th July we are having a crazy hair day – you don’t need to do anything! The Langley teachers and children will give each other some funky doo’s! Be prepared for when you pick your child up :P

Have a great weekend,

Miss Emily, Miss Renee, Miss Brooke and Miss Sarah.

Mead

Dear Mead Room families,
This week we have consolidated our understandings of colour by creating our Mead Room colour explosion painting!  We placed an enormous tarpaulin underneath the climbing equipment and dropped paint from a great height watching with glee as it plummeted to the canvas below.  Our blank canvas quickly transformed before our eyes, incorporating all the colours of the rainbow.

Seb – It went splat.

Christopher – I dropped it, it felt lovely.

Benji – Poured the cup and the blue paint went on the floor.  It looked like puddles.

Zoe – Blue! It splashed onto the canvas, it go dribble, dribble.

Noah – I did it, it was fun.

Ellie – It was silly! It dripped and dropped!

Charlie B – The paint dropped down… it was really fun.

Lucy – I chose pink. I throwed it and dropped it, it went splat.

Lucas – I like it going splat!

Ned – it went in all the colours.

Lola – I choosed pink, splot, splat, split.  When I threw it down I was a bit excited!

We have also been investigating painting with pipettes and small droppers.  Working on a vertical surface offered opportunities to learn about gravity and colour theory while also developing fine motor skills…. Plus it was so much fun!

It can be tricky to pinch, squeeze, then release the pipette to fill it with paint, then squeeze again to transfer the paint to paper, however the Mead Room children were determined and persevered until they became skilled at using the tools, even becoming peer tutors to support others.

A big thankyou to Saffi our Year 11 work experience student – we have thoroughly enjoyed having you with us for this week.  Good luck with your studies!

Have a wonderful weekend.

Melissa and Maddie

ELC Car Park

Dear Families

As you are aware there are ongoing issues with parking at the College with some days being particularly busy and carparks difficult to find.

Property Services have attempted to help the issue by designating a number of 15 minute parking spaces for ELC parents. Opposite these spaces are carparks for ELC staff.

Please can we ask that these carpark spaces are used in the manner in which they are intended and we thank you in advance for your ongoing patience and assistance with this difficult ongoing matter.

Kind regards

ELC Team

Congratulations

Congratulations to Anny, Sergey and Max on the addition to their family of new baby brother, and son, Roland.

Dancify Performance

Next Friday 26 June the children will be performing the funky dances they have been learning with Miss Heidi from Dancify over the past few weeks.

The dance performance will begin at 9am and end at 10.30am. We are inviting all parents to come along to see their expert dancers! Each age group will be performing 2 dances and parents are invited to join in for the Chicken Dance at the end of the performance.

If your child does not normally attend on the Friday you are still more than welcome to bring them along, we just ask that you stay with your child.

Please let Mandy or me know by Wednesday if you are planning to attend: elcadmin@pac.edu.au

Kind regards

Melanie

Colour Run

What an amazing end to our inquiry topic of Conversations in Colour! The joy of the children’s faces says so much about how much they loved it. It was so much more than this, as afterwards the children explained why they had had so much fun.

“ I feel great, I have never done anything like that before!”

“I never did it last year because I felt scared. This year I thought I would try and now I know how it feels – I love it!”

It was so great to see so many children being risk-takers, a disposition that really helps their long term resilience.

Thank you to the parents for providing white t-shirts, it really added to the occasion. As one child said, “ I didn’t know about the Colour Run, Mum is going to be so surprised about my white top!"

Regards
