Edgerley

Dear Parents

The Edgerley children are to be congratulated on how well they have adjusted to their new environment and settled in to the 4 year old room and routines. The transition seems to have been smooth and they are enthusiastically taking on the new challenges.

The children's interest in exploring colour has remained strong in our room this week. The children have been mixing colours and creating myriads of wonderful new colours with great excitement. They have done this using paint and also play dough as a medium. Beginning with white play dough as a base, the children then added coloured dye and created new coloured play dough. They then mixed those various colours together to make even more colours!  On Monday our Edgerley scientists took part in a science experiment using milk, dishwashing liquid and coloured dye. The combinations gave some spectacular results and created moving colour combinations. They predicted what colours would be made and learnt which primary colours are needed to create other secondary colours.

Here are some of our discoveries:
Yellow and blue makes green, and then I added red and it makes brown - Angus
I did red first and then blue and it made purple - Lexie
I put red on the paper and yellow and made brown - Caterina
I used 3 colours - blue, red and yellow - and it made black - Zara
Blue and yellow makes green! - Hamish

The children have been watering the seeds we are growing in the classroom and they have observed some changes.
It's got lots of roots coming out of there - Struan
That one's got a little sticking up seed - Rory
The seeds are making the plants grow up - Charlie O
It looks like a beanstalk. They growed longer - Sebastien

We have  had some discussions about what plants need to grow and came up with a list - water, dirt, soil, seeds and Rory added that plants need sun to grow. There was some confusion about how our plants would manage to grow inside the classroom as there is no sun in our room. Struan and Aston came up with some suggestions.
The lights are doing it - Struan
The lights are just like the sun - Aston

Best wishes,
Emma, Mel and Cristina
