Big Boys Breakfast

Dear Parents,

“Any man can be a Father but it takes a special person to be a dad.” Anonymous
It has been a special week as we prepared to celebrate Father’s day with the Big Boys Breakfast. To begin with we talked about what we love about our Dads and shared the favourite things we like to do together. Many children brought in photos to share during show and tell. We created portraits and the children carefully talked about their special drawings. No celebration is ever complete without a gift so the children have also been busy creating a gorgeous handmade tie for their Dad to wear to the breakfast and a magnetic photo board to remember their special morning together. After a delightful concert and a feast of yummy pancakes the children excitedly took their Dad into the “Book Nook” and shared a few quiet or noisy moments reading a book together. What a special way to snuggle up close! We hope everyone enjoyed their morning and we wish all our  Dad’s a Happy Father’s day. You are very special to your children and it has been beautiful listening to the children talk so lovingly about why their Dad is so special !

Happy Father’s Day!

Edgerley Room

Dear Edgerley families and friends.

Week 5 has been a very busy week for all of us. Building tree houses in various styles has showcased the children's ability to plan, share, solve problems and work as a team of builders.
"I will build the roof", Gabby said.
"And I will prepare the wall", Oliver added.
"There will be some trees on the side too" Sabian thought.
"This tree house is for all of us", Henry decided.
"There's a house next to mine. It's a house for me and Harrison. You have to wait for the boom gate to open if you want to come in", said Jackson.
"Let me know when the roof is done then I can put the chimney", Spencer requested.
We have been discussing more about different sounds our bodies can make. We heard lots of clicking, clucking, wheezing, stomping, clapping and lots more. We also enjoyed watching video clips of people body drumming and beatboxing. We were totally amazed at what  noises our bodies can make. But when the noise gets all too much, we know that we have a cubby to go in to and listen to soft sweet music with our headphones. It's chilled and relaxing in there.

Our excursion to the Odeon Theatre to watch " Me and My Shadow" was a huge success. The children were in awe at how the shadows moved and changed in shape and size. The use of lights was incredibly entertaining and there were just lots of giggles and laughter all throughout.
"Why the shadow go big and small?" inquired Edward.
"It was very funny when the boy jumped over the girl", Sabian said as he giggled.
"The man lifted the big red ball!" Pauline exclaimed.
"I want to see it again!" Florence added.
Thank you to the parent helpers who took the time to go with us.

We are all looking forward to all the dads coming to our Big Boys Breakfast! Please remember that we are also raising funds for the Wesley Mission Australian along with this event and we are looking forward to your support in making a difference in the life of the less fortunate. See you all on Thursday morning.

Chapple Room

Dear Chapple Families,

Thank you so much for your warm welcome on my first week in Chapple and what a week it has been!  The students have been busy creating some beautiful artworks while listening to Lullaby music. They have had very thought full reflections on their work.

"This makes me make circles.  It’s bubbles, it makes me think about bubbles.  It doesn’t make me all crazy."  Hugo

"I painted what the music sounded.  The stars and a night time sky and the people sleeping in their beds". Izabella
"I hear a violin and I’m painting one.  Actually a double violin.  I hear a piano, it makes me feel a bit sad."  Amaia
Please come in and have a look at them.
We also enjoyed our trip to the Odeon Theatre to see ‘Me & My Shadow’, even with the very long walk there and back.
"It was good. We saw it about shadows. There was a man and a lady. And they came out of the show at the end. When the man tricked the lady was my favourite."- Oscar
"I liked it a little bit. Going to the show was the best bit, it was really fun going there ". Markis
Don’t forget your blue Big Boys Breakfast surveys, we need them by Wednesday please.
Thanks again, have wonderful warm and dry weekend.

Cooper Room

Dear Cooper Parents,
Our learning this week has been all about challenges! The winter months prove to be a challenge in lots of ways – ducking in and out of the wind and rain, trying to avoid catching colds but our challenges were a little different.
We challenged ourselves
: to carefully make our way around the most amazing obstacle course in the town square climbing under rails, balancing on hay bales and stepping on wooden logs to make it to the very end. This tested our perseverance as well as our balance and co-ordination skills.
: sort and classify a wide selection of objects to see what floats and what sinks after playing in the puddles. We were amazed to see that some rocks do float and some pieces of bark sink – quickly!
: create a house that the Big Bad Wolf could not blow down, no matter how hard he huffed and puffed. The children used our dark tent as the house and re-created the story many times over. We will continue to work on construction the perfect house next week, using clay, play dough and a variety of natural resources.
: recognise our own names at group times and even search for our friends names. We began to practise writing them in the sand on the light table.
: putting on our own shoes and socks after rest time. This was probably one of our biggest challenges and sometimes we got them on the wrong feet but we were all very proud of our efforts.
I wonder what challenges next week will bring!
Best wishes

Mead Room

Dear Parents and Friends,
This week we have been busy preparing for our Big Boys’ Breakfast, which is next Thursday morning at 8am. We have also had another musical performance to enjoy. Some Year One boys who are learning the strings came down to visit us in the Mead Room. It was wonderful to be their audience!
We are busy exploring sounds that are made by aeroplanes. Toby brought in some photos of the aeroplanes that pass over his house each day. Often we hear and see planes in the skies over PAC too! Today we have made our own runway in the classroom. The children have been making planes with Mobilo and it is our hope that we might use some wood and popsticks to create our own aeroplanes.
The children have been very busy discovering the sounds made by jungle animals…. We have created our own jungle corner and are reading lots of stories and doing singing games such as “One elephant went balancing, step by step on a piece of string. He thought it was such enormous fun so he called for another elephant to come!” We have reached 5 elephants balancing before the piece of string snapped!!
Always fun and games in the Mead Room!
Kind Regards,

Emma, Pip, Amelia and Heidi

Langley Room

Dear Langley Family and Friends,
We have brought a little bit of sunshine to our rainy week this week by examining some bright coloured daffodils. The children have been studying the shape and colours of the daffodils and then using paint and collage materials to represent them at the easel. Please have a look at our growing gallery of daffodil paintings on display.

We have also been using instruments to create sounds and noises at our music station, complete with a stage and a microphone. We have had all sorts of different renditions of a range of songs and next week we will be discussing with children what their favourite songs are.

We have been busy practicing our songs for our Big Boys Breakfast concert next week and are all looking forward to sharing a very special morning with our favourite big boys. If you have not yet RSVP’d or returned your survey and photo can you please do so as soon as possible as these will be used as part of our display for the morning. We look forward to seeing lots of Daddy’s, Grandpa’s or Uncles there next week!

Best wishes,

Jess, Kerry, Nicole and Emily

Langley Room

Dear Langley family and friends,
We have been exploring the different sounds in the book "We’re Going on a Bear Hunt" at the story table this week. We have been listening to the CD story and retelling our own versions using the props. Our versions have been complete with sounds – swishy swashy grass, howling snow storms, squelchy mud and our favourite, the scream when we discover the bear!

A big thankyou to Harry’s mum (from the Mead room), who brought in her harp to show us on Friday. We all thought that it looked like a giant guitar with its big strings! She showed us how all the parts worked and played some beautiful pieces of music for us. We heard soft noises and loud noises and high and low noises and even noises that sounded a bit like a waterfall! After she had played we all got have a turn at playing it as well - we think there may be some harpists in the making in the Langley.

Our Big Boys Breakfast is coming up on Thursday 29th August and we have been very busy preparing for our celebrations! If we could have all RSVP slips and surveys back as soon as possible that would be fantastic.

Have a great weekend.

Best wishes,

Jess, Kerry, Nicole and Emily

Cooper Room

Dear Cooper Room families,

Snapshots from our week:
·        The children have continued to explore sounds this week – we have introduced a didgeridoo, drums, tapping sticks, bongo drums and many more. It is amazing how much noise a few children can make! Next week we will be creating a band stand so the children can perform their new songs for their peers. If you have any old pot lids or guitars you are happy for us to borrow, please bring them in.
·        Outdoors the children have LOVED exploring in the puddles. They have discovered new ways to make the puddles larger, deeper and experimented with different things that float and sink. We shall explore this further in the room next week.
·        A small group of children have been tending to our sunflowers in the garden with Miss Bowden. This week we have been using a new medium of ink water paints to create our images of sunflowers. The children have loved the way the paints are so smooth to use and float over the page.
·        We have been playing lots of music games and learning many new songs – a few just for our Dads. We are starting to find the beat and play along with a variety of instruments. On Friday a Mum from the Mead room played her gorgeous harp for us. “It will make a loud sound because it is so huge,” said Jasper. We were all entranced by it’s sweet soft sound and all had a chance to play the harp ourselves. Where will our musical journey take us next?
Enjoy a wonderful weekend.

Susan and Coral

Mead Room

Dear Parents and Friends,
We were so fortunate to have Tanya Menz (Harry’s mum) spend her morning with us in the ELC today. Tanya played her beautiful harp music for us and let the children have turns at making the sounds themselves. The children were captivated and found it such a rare and beautiful experience. Something they will never forget! Thank you so much Tanya!
Jock: Wow!
Tom: It’s a music day!
Tanya: Has anyone seen a harp before?
All the children: Nooooooooooo
Tanya: This is a pedal harp. The pedals change the sound. There are 46 strings. My harp came all the way from America. This is what harp music looks like on a page. (showing her manuscript)
Harry B: Wow!
First Tanya played “The Little Fountain” It sounded like a waterfall.
Jock: Why aren’t you singing?
Tanya: Oh, I don’t sing, it’s tricky enough just to play.
Alec: It’s almost giant den (than) dat (that) (pointing to the ceiling)
Harry B: Do it faster! Do it faster!
Then Tanya played “A Moorish Garden”. It had soft and loud parts, fast and slow.
Jock and Harry B: Do more loud!
Then Tanya let us all have a turn. It was beautiful to see the children’s faces as they experimented and made sounds.
Angus: It (the string) is buzzing.

What a treat! We are having a ball making shakers and moving on to drums next week. The children are showing a special interest in the noises that jungle animals make. We are busy making a video with Mrs Kerr of “The Lion sleeps tonight” which will be amazing!
Warmest Regards,
Emma, Pip, Amelia and Heidi

Edgerley Room

Dear Edgerley Families and Friends,
It’s great timing that our ELC is expanding just at the same time that we are exploring our Unit of Inquiry: Noiseworks! We often hear bangs and drilling and some machinery that we haven’t heard of before. We asked the children what all the noises were and why we could hear them.
Sabian: They’re building a new PAC. My daddy said there was not enough PAC.
Edward: The PAC going to bang it like that.
Harry P: They building more classrooms we need more kids to get help for them.
Mrs Baird: What will we need for the new children?
Oliver: More tables for the new children.
Pauline: More sandpits.
Hudson: But how we get out then?
Kristian: More apples, real apples.
Harry P: More carpets.
Hudson: We can’t get out if there’s lots of tables in front of us.
Max: Chairs. We need chairs.
Pauline: We need more playroom.
Harry P: Toys!
Kristian: More apples for the children.
Jackson: More cooks otherwise we won’t have enough to help Mr Rob.
Kristian: Beautiful new stairs. That would make it beautiful.
Pauline: More mats so the little ones can sleep.
Harry P: Clocks.
Oliver: More books.
Henry: Toys.
Florence: Trains. They will need trains.
Edward: A town forrest.
Liam. They need blocks.
Harry P: Doors.
Well done Edgerley – you are being very thoughtful about all the new children we are preparing for.
Looking forward to an exciting week ahead as we venture further into our interest of tree houses, sirens and teeth!

Chapple Room

Thank you to all the Chapple Room families for a wonderful year and a special last week. I am feeling very loved and spoilt with all the gifts I’ve received. This baby now officially has more toys than Prince George! Thank you for all the words of advice, support and encouragement. I will miss all the children and families terribly, but will be back to visit throughout the rest of the year. Have a fantastic time with Miss Veltmeyer and Miss Giorgio!
Throughout the year we have had many discussions about what we think the baby will look like etc. Here are some of the children’s thoughts.
A girl called Charlotte. I don’t know what it will look like. Sebastian
I think you’re having a boy. You should call it Peter. It will be big. Asterios
I think it will look like a girl. Maybe it could have brown eyes and maybe blonde hair like you Mrs Schmidt. You should call it Rainbow Dash ‘cause it’s pretty. Amaia
I think it’s going to have blue eyes. A boy. Call it…….um……Mrs Snip. Bayley
Charlotte. A girl. Leroy
I think you’re going to have twins. Two boys. Peter…and….I don’t know. I think they will have black hair. I do have black hair. Abhi
I think you’re having a girl. Call her Sally. She’ll be pretty with a long, long, long cord. An umbilical cord. Susannah
A boy with blonde hair and I think it’s going to be called…. I don’t know. James W
One baby called, you must call it, a big boy baby and twins. Markis
I think that your baby’s going to have blonde hair and you’re going to call it Jacob. Jacob
I think it’s going to have long curly hair and it’s going to have little baby shoes. I think it’s going to be a girl. Eden
We had a great time during our Pppp pyjama party and have really been enjoying following the literacy program. Miss Giorgio will continue to work on a sound each week and also plans to further develop their letter awareness and name writing skills throughout the term.
Thanks again,

Christmas Closure Dates

Dear ELC Parents
The current building works for the extension are well underway as I am sure you have noticed by the hoarding and apologetically some of the noise.
We are very excited by the redevelopment and know it will add to the character and essence of our centre.  Indeed it will also provide new and exciting spaces for our children to learn and extend their play based inquiry with a second Town Square and new play equipment.
To ensure the builders are able to complete work within the current centre without affecting the children and to provide you ample time to make alternate arrangements, we wish to advise that the centre will be closed over the Christmas/ New Year break for an additional week in January 2014.

The centre will close for Christmas from 6.00pm Friday December 20, 2013 and reopen at 7.30am Monday, January 13, 2014

Neil Andary

A few Reminders

Please make sure you do not walk across the rubber outdoor surface if wearing high heels as you will find yourself sinking and leaving holes in it !

The front door code is for the safety of all children here so please be mindful of this when providing it to other people . Please do not give it to the children (even older ones) as they may find it hard not to "share" it.  The door pad is also quite sensitive so adults only please.

During the cold and wet season we understand that children need to wear a jacket for arriving/departing and outside play. The uniform shop has the ELC jackets available  for this purpose. Please remember that the only change to the uniform is that neutral coloured pants are Ok if you are unable to get Moroon ones. All other aspects remain the same including keeping to white T shirts/skivvies underneath the ELC top.

Langley Room

Dear Langley family and friends,

Wow, what a noisy week we have had in the Langley room! We have been exploring a range of different musical instruments during group times and individual play and even in our Chinese lessons. We created a band with Lao Shi and played our instruments as we sang the Chinese family song.

We have also been experimenting with loud and soft noises in our group times. Some children prefer the soft quiet noises and othesr love the big loud noises. We have continued our exploration of sounds we can hear in our environment using the sound board to put up pictures of the noises we hear.

We were also lucky enough to have Reverend Mark come and play the didgeridoo for us. Some of us were a bit concerned to start with until we heard the wonderful noise it could make. He showed us how he could make different sounds with the didgeridoo and, upon return to the classroom, we used cardboard tubes to recreate some of the sounds we had heard. The school choir also came down on Wednesday and performed for us! Phew, what a busy week we have had. I wonder what will be in store for us next week!

Best wishes,

Jess, Kerry, Nicole and Emily

During the cooler months we still love to take the children outside to explore the Wintery environment. The children have been fascinated with the puddles that have been created in the yard from the rain and we have been digging in them and exploring floating and sinking objects. If your child has some wet weather clothes (gum boots and a rain jacket) can you please pack them in their school bags with an extra set of spare clothes so that we can further explore the wonderful muddy puddles!

Cooper Room

Dear Parents,
This week we have been lucky enough to have three wonderful performances in the ELC.
On Monday we visited the year 3 boys playing their recorders. We listened and watched carefully as they moved their fingers to make different sounds. We even played a dancing game with them.
On Tuesday Rev. Marks came and shared his didgeridoo with us. The children were fascinated with the different sounds he could create changing the way he moved his lips and blew. Tommy even played the tapping sticks to help set the beat. We could see the didgeridoo was hollow and made out of a long, thick piece of wood.
On Wednesday the year 3,4 and 5 choir shared a different instrument with us – their voice! They showed us how to warm up our voices and together we sang Do, Ray, Me. We are so lucky to see all these different sounds and instruments.
Back in the Cooper Room the children have loved experimenting with their Noisy table and found ways to make different sounds. Archie shared a new book called “Grug and his Music” so we will have fun finding and making new instruments next week.
We hope you all enjoy a wonderfully Noisy weekend.

Susan and Coral

Mead Room

Dear Parents and Friends,
Today we went on a “sound walk” in our school. We had to really listen carefully to see what we could hear!
We heard Mrs Dry clicking with her mouse while she was working on her computer, that was a really quiet sound.
Then we went to stand outside the ELC and we listened to the noisy traffic on the Parade West.
As we walked along the path we listened carefully and heard many bird noises in the Manchurian Pear trees in the carpark. As we walked along we heard and saw birds flying away as we noisily moved along.
As we looked up we saw one of the builders standing up on a very high platform where all the windows were missing. He gave us a wave as we walked on past.
Together we walked up towards the Prep School. On the way we saw Jo driving his tractor around the school to collect the rubbish bins.
Jo gave us a wave and turned his tractor down into the lane behind the kindy.
All of a sudden Miss Amelia asked us to stop and listen carefully. We heard a siren coming along the road.
We walked on past the Boarding House and then we went down to visit the Laundry. As we came to the door we all listened carefully.
We all went in and saw the big washing machines and dryers spinning and turning. They were huge!
It was very loud and there was lots of washing everywhere.
As we walked on we heard the bell in the Prep School.
We looked around and saw some big boys starting to come out of their classrooms so we sat down on the wall and listened…
The children loved running across the big front oval to the big screen. They all stood up near the fence and listened to the loud sounds they could hear…
All the children noticed how loud it was to be so close to the traffic on Dequetteville Terrace.
After a play on the Prep School playground we tiredly walked back down the path towards the ELC. As we looked across to the roundabout we saw our friend Mr Ty the gardener. He was busy raking leaves.
The children noticed “His rake is going ch – ch – ch – ch”
The next sound Mrs Cooper alerted us to was near the big gas meter. The children stopped and put their ears close and heard a quiet “sssssssss” sound.
We walked on down and found some rustly grasses and leaves in the garden. It was fun to swish our hands through their leaves.
By the time we made our way back to our ELC we had heard many different sounds! Our school is full of different sounds and it is a very noisy place!
We are looking forward to hearing Harry Menz’s mummy play her harp next week. If there are any hidden musical talents hiding away amongst our families please let us know!
Warm Regards,
Emma, Pip, Amelia and Heidi

Edgerley Room

Dear Edgerley Families and Friends,

Boom! Bang! Crash! Laaaaaaa! Tee tee tee! We have a real live orchestra in Edgerley, complete with a raised conducting platform, music stands and all manner of replica (box construction) instruments and made up instruments. We sound pretty amazing. The catch phrase to start each song, it seems, is “1, 2, 3, 4 – hit it guys!” Come in and have a listen – the teachers just can’t get enough!
We were treated with a visit from Rev. Mark Dickens and he brought along his didgeridoo! He was amazing and he talked with us about how he needs to breathe differently to keep the sound going. We could hear the sound and we discovered that we could even FEEL it too!
On Wednesday, Mr Bouyessis and Mrs Bell visited us with about 20 boys from the Prep School. They sang beautifully to us and we had a chance to sing back to them. Mr Bouyessis even showed us how a real conductor speaks – with their hands!
It’s been a super exciting week and very soon it will be next week!
We look forward to welcoming back two of our friends Archie and Louis.
We welcome Ms Karla to the Edgerley and Chapple classes!

Enjoy your weekend!

Edgerley Team

Chapple Room

Dear Chapple Room Parents and Friends,
We are continuing our exploration into our Noiseworks unit of inquiry and making many new and exciting discoveries. We have made our own noisemakers, listened to sounds in a game of sound bingo, identified the noises from the construction site next door and explored various sounds during our music lessons. We have painted pictures of things that make sounds and noises for the big display board. Here are some of our comments from these pictures.
I drawed a person. A person sings ‘La, la, la’. It’s sad singing. It’s still making a noise, but it’s sad singing. Samuel
I’m doing a dog. Woof! Boats make sounds. Seb
That’s a little baby. Waaaa. This is the daddy and that’s the mum. I’m doing the grandma and grandpa. They talk. A baby goes waaaa. James W
This is my dog. It’s a toy dog and it goes ‘woof, woof’ when you press the button. Does it go like this when it’s unhappy? Grrrrr…..Now I’m going to do a person walking the dog. It goes, ‘hhhhhh’, that’s laughing. Monsters make a sound, they go ‘roar!’. Leonardo
I’m doing spots on my violin. I like spots. Hugo
I’m going to do a violin like Hugo’s. I don’t know what sound it makes….. Umm. I think I’ll do a drum. Do you know I’m making this for Zachhy. He’ll like it because I’m doing a tractor on it. They go ‘brmm, brmm’. Ethan
The noise of the fire from the chimney makes a ‘chuff, chuff, chuff’. I drew a house. Susannah
I drawed people. They make noises, all kinds of noises. They usually talk and some people do magic. Leroy
I’m drawing a person whistling. Eden
I’m making a sky and a person whistling and grass that is green. The sky is just going ‘whoooo’. The grass says ‘swshshsh’. Izabella
It’s a car, vrmm, vrmm. And it has a horn because some people don’t know when to move. It goes ‘beep, beep, beep’. James S
I did a dog that goes ‘woof’. The cat is chasing the dog going ‘meow, meow, meow’ and the dog is going ‘woof, woof’. Asterios
These wheels make a squeaky noise. It’s a catcher. It catches bad people. James W
I’m doing a monkey. ‘Ooooo,aaaaaa’. Seb M
If you bounce a ball it makes a sound. ‘Boom, boom, boom.’ Abhi
I’m making a purple carrot because if you bite it, it makes a crunchy sound. Markis
My dog barks a hundred times. Amaia
Friday will be my last day in Chapple Room. Thank you for all your support throughout the year. I will miss all the children and families a lot! It has been a fantastic year and I look forward to hearing about the success and growth of all the children over the next six months. Miss Giorgio and Miss Veltmeyer will do an amazing job and the children will love them both! The Chapple Room children are a wonderful group and I know that Miss Giorgio will soon love them all too. Have a wonderful end to the year. I will be bringing the baby in to meet all the children it’s been listening to over the last eight months and can’t wait to come back for the Nativity Concert and Graduation at the end of the year.
Thank you,

In the classrooms

Langley

Dear Langley family and friends,

We have had another busy week welcoming new friends into our classroom and further exploring sounds and noises. The children have been keen to listen to and identify the different sounds that they can hear in their environment. We have been identifying lots of familiar sounds such as aeroplanes and ambulances but we have also been identifying different sounds and trying to work out what they might be.
During their outdoor exploration, Sterling and Lachlan heard a noise coming from the garden behind the water tank. They decided to go and investigate.

It’s coming from behind here – Lachlan

To their amazement, they discovered a big cage with something inside.

It’s a ‘chine (machine) and it has big things inside – Sterling

Where does the noise come from? – Miss Jess

It comes from inside the hose – Sterling

Can you make the noise? – Miss Jess

It’s coming from in there, not from me. I can make ppwwwhhh noise (blows a raspberry) – Sterling

We will extend this environmental noise exploration further next week by creating a noise chart where the children can display pictures of the sounds they can hear during the day.

We have also been exploring music and musical instruments in the afternoons using the sleep room as a dance floor. It has been a hive of activity as we play musical statues and explore how much noise we can make with our instruments!

To further explore our concept of families can we please ask parents to bring in a family photo for your child to share if we do not already have one.

Best wishes,

Jess, Kerry, Nicole and Emily
Cooper

Dear Cooper Room families,

It has been a wonderful week in the Cooper Room exploring sounds, building, creating and sharing stories about our families.

The children have been using our Noisy table to experiment with creating NOISY sounds and soft sounds. We have noticed that most of us like LOUD sounds but only for a little while! Children have brought along tins and jars to add to our Noisy table and Tommie even thought of a pair of earmuffs!

As the children further explore their new environment they have discovered the blocks. We have added images of the children to the block corner so they can continue to include their friends in their play even when they are not at the ELC. Harry, Knox and Sze-Yong experimented with creating towers and discovered that very high towers make a LOUD sound when they crash to the ground – even on carpet.

We have also started to share the amazing Family pages created in the holidays. The children have been excited to discover their new friends like the same things as them! A special thank you for your wonderful efforts in helping the children prepare posters about their special family. We invite you all to take a closer look at our Family Wall soon.

We wish you all a wonderful weekend.

Kind regards

Susan and Coral

Dear Parents and Friends,

This week our show and tell theme has been day and night noises. What a lot of creative families we have! We thought it would be fun to share a snapshot of some of the inspirational ideas the children have shared.
Dougal: It’s my alarm clock…. to wake us up. It doesn’t belong to me. It belongs to my Mum’s mum. She needs it to wake up because she’s a bit stiff… When you switch it over to here it alarms! Beep beep beep. My Mummy and Daddy’s alarm clock is me. I just say “Wakey wakey time!”

Toby: We hear birds in the morning and they tweet so loud. Mummy heard an owl last night and they hoot hoot. I didn’t hear it as I was fast asleep. I hear the birds tweeting all morning.
Alexander: We have an owl in our garden who hoot every night. I didn’t hear owl hooting. Owls make ‘dis(this) noise twit- two. He flew away from his nest s I didn’t see him.

Jada: It’s a Barbie computer! We first press ‘dis (this) Chloe shows me what to do with it. (Jada chose the button that played music. It was her favourite!)
James S: It’s called a bobcat. It goes “bwoom bwoom” in d’ daytime. A bobcat is a special toy because someone bought it for me. It goes stretching, slow

Alec: There’s Hoot, a elephant and a mouse. A mouse goes “squeak, squeak” at night time. Hoot from Giggle and Hoot Show. He’s an owl… he goes “woo hoo” at night time. An elephant goes “brrrr” at d’zoo in d’daytime.
It is fabulous to see the way children are making connections between their knowledge and learning so much from each other. The shared time it takes for you to choose an idea together to share and the discussions you are having with your child are such rich and meaningful learning opportunities. We are seeing the fruit of your work and you should feel proud of the depth of oral language and understanding your children are sharing with each other.

Thank you so much for your efforts! We do appreciate it!
Kind Regards,

Emma, Pip, Amelia and Heidi
Edgerley

Dear Edgerley Families and Friends,
As we were busy playing, we all heard a really loud noise! We all reacted with confused looks as we’d never heard this noise in the ELC. We rushed over to the corner of the room near the making table. The noise stopped and we froze, waiting for it again.
“Do it again,” said Sebastian. He was looking very hopeful.
“Brrrrrrrrrrrr,” went the noise. “Brrrrrrrrrrr.”
“It’s coming out of the ear!” Henry exclaimed! Mrs Baird had made a big ear so we could remember to concentrate on using our own ears to listen.
“Yes, it’s the ear!” added Archie quite excitedly.
“No, it’s coming from the ground, under the making table,” Oliver shared his thoughts with his friends.
The group of boys all crouched down and put their ears to the ground waiting for the sound again.
“Brrrrrrrr. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr,” went the sound.
“That was a long one,” Henry shared.
“I think it’s a school driver and it goes brrrr brr eewwww,” said Oliver.
The boys all nodded. We waited and waited and waited for it to happen again, but no more sounds.
We’ve had a really fabulous week exploring sounds in the Big Boys Music Room. We were able to see Mr Newhouse conducting the orchestra. We saw and heard trumpets, trombones, saxaphones, drums, xylophones, clarinets and guitars. It was wonderfully noisey!
Harrison shared with us, “It’s the Batman song!”
Thanks to those of you who are bringing in your recycling! We would love to make our own noise makers and music makers for our very own orchestra! Even if you can just bring in one day’s worth of (clean) recycling, we would REALLY appreciate it
Have a lovely weekend,
Edgerley Team
Chapple

Dear Chapple Room Parents and Friends,

We have kicked off our Noiseworks unit with a bang! We have been exploring all things that make sounds and noises. Each day we listen to the construction sounds from next door and try to predict what machine is making each sound. We are continuing to learn songs and play instruments to further develop our understanding that noises have different meanings and purposes. Several children have brought in guitars and ukuleles from home. They have performed various songs for us, explained how their instrument works and helped us to further understand that notes can be combined to make nice noise- music.

‘Well I actually can’t play this. It’s my Dad’s guitar, but you put your fingers on the chords to make notes.’ Asterios told us.

We all enjoyed hearing Bayley’s version of Old MacDonald on his pretty lady, (ukulele) and many other children have performed for us. It’s been great!

We had a lovely day at high tea on Saturday. It was so nice for all the mums to catch up and have a chat over some beautiful food. Thank you to Di and Grace for organizing it. I hope the next class function is as much of a success. Miss Gorgio has been getting to know the group and Miss Veltmeiyer is now settled. Amaia joined us this week and has settled in well to Chapple Room. A lot of children have coughs and colds and we are trying to stay on top of it! Please help us by looking out for any signs of illness and letting us know.

Have a great weekend!
