Dear Mead families,
We have continued to explore building at the light table,
in the block corner and with the large blocks outside this week. The children
are exploring mathematical concepts through this building, examining how tall
their buildings are, counting how many blocks they are using in their towers
and discussing concepts of balance. We have also noticed that the children are
using more forward planning in their building, working out exactly what they
want their building to look like before starting construction. We have been
using pictures of buildings as inspiration for the children and will introduce
some building plans to the children in the coming weeks.
We have also been exploring group games and songs,
supporting the children in the further development of their social skills such
as turn taking and sharing. They have particularly enjoyed Five Cheeky Monkeys
on the wobble board outside! The children have also been engaging in social
play scenarios in the home corner which we have now set up as a party. They
have been sharing resources, negotiating roles and acting out familiar
scenarios.
In line with our Keeping Safe Curriculum, we have
continued to explore facial expressions and what they mean in relation to our
feelings. The children are really starting to grasp this concept and we are now
able to use this in our problem solving with peers during the day, talking
about how particular behaviours are making others feel.
We hope you all enjoy your long weekend, see you all next
week.
Best wishes,
Coney and Jess
