Dear Parents,
This week has
flown by with a whirlwind of enthusiasm and energy. Leading up to Grandies Day,
the children have started to illustrate their Grandies and share their thoughts
on what jobs their Grandies do. We read 'The Lines on Nana's Face' by Simona
Ciraolo. In this story it's Granny's birthday, however her granddaughter is
concerned why she looks so worried, because of all the lines on her face.
Her Granny explains they are wrinkles, and they are where she keeps her
special memories. Jay commented that Mrs McKenzie also has lots of lines
on her face, so she must have lots of memories too!
We learnt another
new letter in our Jolly Phonics program and for the first time we explored
putting the letters we have learnt together to form words. Isaac S was
very excited when he made the word 'sat'. We enjoyed learning the letter
'T' rhyme which had the action of moving our heads from side to side, as if we
were watching a tennis match. Some of the children even discovered that you can
hear the letter 'T' at the end of the word (such as ant), as well as at
the beginning of a word.
Loashi Wenting brought
her mobile keyboard this week's Chinese lessons to accompany the children as
they sang songs in Chinese. The children also practiced their numbers from 1 to
10.
On Tuesday we
celebrated International Happiness Day. The children were fascinated that this
meant that people all around the world were celebrating the same thing. Ned
wondered if this meant 'Even the children in Africa?' and he was assured yes!
Brian wondered if it included 'Santa in the North Pole?' Across the Centre the
ELC children shared how they would share their happiness with someone.
Here are some of their ideas:
Make someone
laugh - Ned
Singing with my
sister - Alexander
Play with someone
- Will G
Let my friend do
what they want to do - Isaac B
Share a toy -
Xavier
Giving a cuddle -
Yash
Our Learning in
Nature Program began for the Wednesday children this week too. Through the lens
of observing through our senses the children discovered a variety of sights and
sounds in the parklands. They made observational drawings and decided upon an
essential agreement for their time spent there moving forward.
Best wishes,
Emma, Mel and
Chris
