Dear Families and Friends,
This week in Angwin we have been settling into our
many inquiries. The children have been working on family posters using
descriptive language to describe their family, such as littlest, tallest,
oldest, youngest, biggest. The children have created family portraits and we have
added family photos collected during our show and tell sessions.
We have found many gifts of nature in our Summer
veggie patch including tomatoes, pumpkins, limes, lemons, oranges, pears and
apples. The children have been desperate to pick the harvest but we have
discussed ways that we know the fruit and vegetables are ready to be picked… The
temptation is almost too much!
Billy:
When a tomato is ready to pick it changes from green to red
Sidney:
When a lemon is ripe it changes from green to yellow
Riani:
An apple is ready when it is red not green but some apples stay green or turn
yellow
Mrs
C: The pumpkin is ready when the stalk dries out
Billy:
A lime stays green for its’ whole entire life!
Some of our friends have worked on building their
knowledge of numbers up to 30, using numeral cards and holding great
discussions about what number comes next. It has been amazing to hear their
joint problem solving and the way they have decided what comes next.
There has been ongoing interest in tower building and
measuring, using Unifix cubes. We will be starting to work on ways to measure
our own lengths using different arbitrary units next week. The children are
using an array of descriptive language to distinguish between height and size
too.
At the painting easels an exciting exploration of
printing has emerged as the children have painted an image and then made a copy
of it using another piece of paper. This has become very popular with different
children helping others to make these new discoveries too! We shall explore
this further with different tools such as pipettes, the photocopier and even
some fruit!
Have a wonderful weekend enjoying the sunshine!
Kind regards,
Pip and Liana
