Hi Cooper families,
Over the last few weeks, many of the children
have noticed the beautiful white and pink flowers that are blooming from the
Crepe Myrtle trees outside. To extend this interest, we collected a bunch of
the flowers and brought them into the classroom to use as inspiration for a
visual art experience. It has been wonderful to see the children’s fine motor
skills develop, which assists the children to make more deliberate strokes and
movements with the crayons. Through this experience, the children were using
their observational skills to look at the flowers and identify the colours that
they needed for their drawing and the shapes that they needed to create.
We tested out our coordination, balance and gross motor skills in
a very tricky obstacle course at P.E on Thursday. Through the course the
children had to hop through hoops, balance along a thin beam and jump over
hurdles. We also played 'Duck, duck, goose' after the obstacle course. We allowed
the children to take charge of the game and to carry out the rules
independently with the close support of the educator if needed. This was a fantastic
opportunity for the children to problem solve and negotiate to carry out the
correct rules of the game to ensure the game flowed smoothly.
During the week we took a closer look at the various stages in the
life cycle of a frog. We printed picture of each of the stages, and as a group
we ordered them from the start of their life cycle (eggs) all the way to when
they are fully mature as frogs. The children then illustrated each of the
stages themselves. We recorded our dialogue and will display this on our wall.
We hope that you have a wonderful long weekend.
Love Miss Gilbert and Miss C
