Mattingley

Dear Mattingley Families and Friends,

What a fun start we have had to term 3. The weather has been a little wet and cold, but we have managed to make the most of our time together, especially in the outdoor learning environment. We have seen many children working together, problem solving and negotiating skills as they played in the sandpit. There have been some fantastic roads, cakes and structures taking place.

We making a cake- Clem

It's a birthday cake for Clembo- Elsa

We are making a cake to eat- Anthony

It's a dump truck cake. See we burry the dump truck- Ari

I put the cement on- Dylan

We have also seen the children practicing their problem solving and negotiating skills as they work in small groups on the complex floor puzzles we have in our classroom. They are still working on being able to complete these puzzles, however we have seen them using many different strategies to work out where the pieces fit together.

These bits are a bit hard to find- Mack

This one here- Nathan

It's a snake. Start with head- Levi

This week the children have also been practicing their fine motor skills at both the play dough table, using scissors to cut the play dough and the 'tap tap' table. For some children the skills needed to be able to engage in these experiences have been little tricky, however they have all persevered in practicing.

One of our focuses this term will be to work on the children's fine motor skills, building up the muscle strength and skills needed to begin holding pencils in the tripod grip. The tripod grip allows the children to have better control over the pencil as they begin to make more meaningful marks and drawings.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend,

Kimberley and Liana
