Edgerley

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to another full and busy term. We hope you enjoyed your Easter break and managed a little down time! A very warm welcome to Will G’s baby brother, Charlie, and a big congratulations to Sarah and Hugh. May he be a wonderful sleeper and feeder. With the excitement of Will having a newborn addition to his family, there have been some discussion around babies in our class. We have added some dolls to the home corner and observed some very patient and thoughtful role play. Nappies have been changed regularly and there have been lots of reminders to be quiet because the babies are sleeping. We also read ‘There’s a house inside my Mummy’ by Giles Andreae which opened up some interesting discussions about our earliest memories and ultrasounds of babies in mothers tummies!

We have been exploring the features on our faces more in depth and representing them with play dough. Looking in the mirror we have noticed that we have many more details than we have been drawing in our portraits. Our drawings are now becoming more detailed with features such as eye lashes, eyebrows and tongues. On the light table we have been finding the letters in our names and spelling them by ourselves. Alexander even found the first letter of his middle name and surname, and added his age!

Following on from some explorations in the holidays which involved poppies and remembrance, we have begun some investigations into symbols. We decided that symbols are pictures that tell you something. Archie made a special birthday card for his brother and put a symbol for a kiss on the outside of his envelope. Aston suggested that an ‘O’ is the symbol for a cuddle. Charlie O knew that a cuddle symbol (circle) with a kiss inside it is the symbol for a kiss and a hug combined. Rory suggested that a cross symbol means you love Jesus. Charlie O thought it represented Jesus on the cross.  We also revisited the school PAC symbol and a Holden car symbol we had spotted in the ELC car park. Henry then wanted to draw his dad’s car symbol which was the Toyota logo. I wonder if we can find some more symbols around our homes and school in the coming weeks!

Best wishes,

Emma, Cris and Mel
