Dear Families,

We hope you enjoyed your extra long weekend due to the public holiday. This week we have continued our sensory exploration by creating a table where the children were able to explore a range of different herbs. They have enjoyed smelling, feeling and sharing with their peers and educators what they have observed. This experience has allowed the children to explore their sense of smell. The children have been able to use their verbal communication to name the different herbs and share what they can smell. We will continue this exploration by adding thyme to the playdough. We will also be planting some herbs outside in our garden bed.

The light table has been a hit this week with a pattern experience being placed on there to continue their mathematical exploration of shape and pattern. The children have been creating different types of patterns using the coloured stones, blocks and striped place mats. The children have been able to identify, describe, extend and create patterns in various ways. The shape table has also been a great little spot where they have been able to identify and match shapes while interacting with their peers. Using 3D shapes the children have been matching them with the shapes drawn on a piece of paper. They have been using the names of the shapes such as square, triangle, rectangle and circle.

This week our classroom creatures have begun to transform. At the beginning of this week the children could identify the caterpillars on the leaves now, at the end of the week, both caterpillars have turned into chrysallis! We look forward to experiencing the next stage of this lifecycle, when they emerge as beautiful butterflies. Our class creature corner has been a real attraction, so we have provided the children with the opportunity to record their observations on paper.

Please remember on Wednesday the 22nd of March we will be celebrating Harmony - please dress your child in a touch of ORANGE to celebrate this occasion. Also please remember to put in your diaries, the 4th of April is Grandies Day. There are invites for each set of grandparents above your child's lockers, so please have a look, we do have some spares if you need.
