Mattingley

Dear Mattingley families and friends,

We have spent our week watching and waiting, waiting and watching for our butterflies to emerge out of their chrysalis. At the end of our week we find ourselves still waiting. Hopefully there is some movement early next week. Make sure you keep watching.

Still not yet?- Teddy
This the chrysalis. Butterfly come out- Sofia
This one butterfly. This one caterpillar- Parker

What a wonderful day we had Wednesday celebrating Harmony Day as a centre. In our classroom we shared the book 'Ten little fingers, ten little toes' by Mem Fox, focusing on how we all look different but on the inside we are all the same. We all have eyes, we all have a mouth, we all feel sad and we all feel love. The children were then encouraged to choose a pebble each to paint to represent themselves. Once they had finished Mrs Mason put them all together on a canvas to represent our class. All our pebbles are different but they are all still pebbles. Once everyone has finished painting their pebbles we will put our collage on display in the classroom.

Also this week Riani shared with us her love of writing letters, giving both Miss Mason and Miss Baldasso letters with her name beautifully written on each. This gave us the wonderful idea to make a post office within our classroom. Using one of the huge boxes that Riani's Daddy brought in last week the children through they would make a post box, but first we needed to work out what colour it needed to be. Riani suggested we use the iPad to have a look. Armed with our iPad we set to work researching letter boxes in South Australia. We found that there were two different types. A red one for everyday letters and a blue one for express letters.

We just need a red one- Riani decided.
As we painted our letter box the children brainstormed what a post office is and what they would use their letter box for.

You post letters. I mean mail- Didier
And post cards- Anthony
Send to all of your friends- Riani
You put people and houses on the front. That's how they know where to send them- Didier
Then you get mail out of the mail box- Anthony
Evie and Laney gave me a poster. It had princesses on it. It was in my letter box for my other birthday- Sarina
You draw letters- Sofia
You need a pencil- Hudson

We look forward to watching our post office take shape over the next few weeks.
