Edgerley

Dear Parents,

What a hive of activity we have had in the Edgerley Room this week. Our balancing investigations have continued with gusto as the children have experimented with a variety of objects. Sebastian, Rory, Archie and Henry had a competition to see who could build the widest and the tallest balancing structure! Some of us even took the balancing concept outside and into the sandpit building high tyre towers.

We have begun creating our individual family trees on MDF board. If you have not returned the spreadsheet we emailed, please complete it and return it as soon as possible so we can add our family members.

There was great excitement on Monday when we saw a performance of the Lion Dance by some of the senior school students. Some of us fed our hong bao (lucky envelopes) we had made into the lion's mouth to bring us good luck for the following year. Due to one of the senior boys not turning up, Mrs McKenzie had to step in as the rear of the lion! Some of the children even joined Mrs McKenzie to experience what it was like inside the lion. We are in the process of making our very own lion so can become experienced lion dancers ourselves.

With Harmony Day nearing we read 'Can You Say Peace' by Karen Katz and had some wonderful discussion around what harmony might mean:

quiet - Lewis
love - Nicholas V
being kind and sharing - Charlie O
being love and grateful - Zara
being helpful - Henry

We are writing our ideas on paper tags and hanging them from our tree in the classroom to create a 'harmony tree'. Parents, please remember to add your thoughts of what harmony means to you on our poster at the sign in sheet.

Best wishes,
Emma, Mel and Cris
