Mattingley

Dear Mattingley Families and Friends,

After noticing that many children were playing with musical instruments in the Town Square we have put some instruments in our classroom so the children can continue to create music as they wish. We have also come across some special instruments that have been made with natural materials, such as seed pods. As a class we have started to talk about what these instruments are made of, how we play them and are working together to agree on how we should treat them.

Miss Ruggiero: What do we do with these instruments?
Alannah: You have to make music with them and some you shake.
Rocco: Shake them.
William: Shake them
Miss Ruggiero: How many people can play with them at a time?
Mack: One at a time.
Phoenix: Because it's their turn.
Miss Ruggiero: Why only one person?
Angus: Break.
Miss Ruggiero: Where do we put them when we are finished?
Claudia: In the basket so we can't lose them

Our conversations are highlighting the children's increasing understanding of the importance of being responsible with our resources and taking turns. It is great to see the children showing off their creativity as they play and dance around with the instruments. We will continue to talk about and play with the instruments and see where this leads.

We have also set up a kitchen corner in the classroom and many children are enjoying the role playing that is happening in this space. Throughout the week some of the children have been taking on the roles of chefs, whilst others enjoy the food being served to them and a couple of even decided they needed to make a shopping list to let us know what was needed to fill up the cupboards. The social interaction that is occurring in this space is great to see.

The Big Boys Breakfast on Thursday was a fantastic morning. The children proudly presented their dads with the gifts they had made them, showed them the drawings they had done of them and some decorated a tie for their dad to wear for the day.

On Thursday we also had our first Dancify session. The children were really enthusiastic and did a great job listening to the dance instructor and copying her moves. These sessions are a great way to help the children with their co-ordination and gross motor skills. We are looking forward to more Dancify sessions.

Have a lovely weekend,

Cass and Liana
