Edgerley

Dear Edgerley parents,

We have had another jam packed week this week with lots of investigations into the mini beasts in our garden. Lead by Lotti and Olivia we scavenged around all the hiding spaces in the garden to find slaters and caterpillars. We also continued on with our giant game of snail pace race on our block mat. Will P gathered a group of children to work out how to create a large dice. We realised that we need six squares.

A dice is a cube, it has six sides - Isaac S

It needs to be folded, you need six squares - Nicholas Y

As a large group we created a template of six squares to make a giant cube.
It looks like a rocket - Will P

Or a sword - Will A

If you put a square in the middle and four triangles on the sides it will make a pyramid - Nicholas Y

We experimented with large paper, trying to make 3D shapes

The triangles look like a tent! - Olivia

I did two shapes, that’s what I did and now it’s a bridge - Ed

Thursday children continued on with practice for our dancify concert next week and learned two new dance moves called ‘Throw the Cake’ and “I Really Need to go to the Toilet’! It’s looking good and our showcase promises to be fun. Please join us next Thursday on the 21st September at 11.30am if you are able.

We continued to explore the idea of symmetry, attempting to make our own bodies symmetrical and asymmetrical.

We used mirrors and pictures to see how two halves make a whole. We also added more details to our map of the world, thinking about the animals that we knew that came from specific habitats.

We would like to ask parents to help us out by ensuring your child only brings show and tell on their allocated show and tell day. This is to ensure that your child has a receptive and supportive audience to share with. Can we also encourage families to dissuade children from bringing sleep or snuggle toys. We do not sleep during the day and so they are not needed but children can become upset it they are removed from their locker or lost by other inquisitive children.

Have a wonderful weekend

Mel, Emma and Chris
