Edgerley

Dear Edgerley Parents,

We have had another whirlwind week, filled with events and exploration. This week we were very excited to invite our dads to join us in the classroom on Thursday morning. The classroom was filled with the sound of hammers striking nails! Judging from the empty platters in Edgerley the pancakes for breakfast were a real hit!

A big event for a second week running has really encouraged us to continue to build our Edgerley calendar. If you look closely you can see that we have begun to add lots of different events. This week we discovered that Tom and Mr Richards share a birthday month. This encouraged the discussion about the numbers associated with days so we think we may use our numeracy skills to add numbers to our pictures so we can work out who’s birthdays come first.

We began to dig deeper and find out more about the places we have recently visited in the world. We were very surprised to discover that we had visited over thirty different places recently, everywhere from Grace’s shack to London and Fiji! The children are very interested in sharing their travel stories and we have looked closely at the globe and atlas’ in the classroom to begin to share what we know. Karl told us that he had learnt a new word for ‘ocean’ in Fiji and, although he couldn’t remember it, we were interested in the idea that people in different places might do things in different ways to us. We also noticed that the globe had different colours all over it. Ned was struggling to find Africa until he realised that all the colours he was looking at made up Africa. Why then, wondered Lotti, was Australia all the same colour? Ahhh, we have so many questions to explore.

We also had our first Dancify lesson with the lovely Erin. As usual Erin had the children's undivided attention as they all listened closely and copied her moves. We were so proud of the children’s progress after only one session. If their enthusiasm was anything to go by our parent show case should be a show stopper!

We wish all our Dads a wonderful day on Sunday filled with love and cuddles.

Have a lovely weekend Mel, Emma and Chris
