Edgerley

Dear Edgerley families,

Week three has been jam packed with lots of investigation as children have continued to learn more about our classroom yabbies. You may have noticed a new addition, Lucas managed to catch a rather large yabbie (called Nick!) and has popped him up on the shelf for the children to look at. We enjoyed observing him more closely (and carefully) on the mat at group time until Nick made a daring escape and started heading across the carpet. It would seem he is a super-yabbie! We have been talking about how we can find out more information and have started a chart. We found some facts in books as well as by using the internet. Stefan also shared a fact that he discovered through observation! So many different ways to find out information, can you think of any more?

We also spent lots of time talking about how to keep ourselves safe this week, recording a long list of great ideas. We decided to further explore the idea of safe and unsafe touching and created a shared poster to illustrate our understanding. It was wonderful to observe the children openly and frankly sharing their ideas and whilst we did initially have a few giggles when using the correct terminology for some body parts this quickly abated.

Our fascination with dinosaurs has continued and we have begun to turn ourselves into dinosaurs on the board above the lockers. Take a moment to read some of the attributes that are special to us.

We had a special surprise visit from our old Chinese teacher, Lao Shi House, on Thursday and the children were overjoyed to see her. She told us a funny story about why the cat is not part of the Chinese zodiac, using Chinese characters. Of course she needed some help and so, with Lao Shi Wen Ting, we ably assisted her to spot the missing characters. What wonderful linguists we are!

Have a wonderful weekend

Mel, Emma and Ty
