Mattingley

Dear Mattingley families and friends

Last week in our library lesson Mrs Buchanan shared with us a beautiful story called ‘Purple Snow’ written and illustrated by Erick Löbbecke. It was a lovely story about Cockatoo who travelled all the way from Australia to Polar Bear’s home to see white snow. He then invites his friend home to see the purple snow that falls in the Australian summer. It left us trying to guess what purple snow might be. In the end we find out that Cockatoo is talking about the beautiful purple flowers that fall from the Jacaranda tree.

The children loved this story and were very excited when Miss Bowden told us that we have a beautiful Jacaranda tree at school. So off we went to find our own purple snow. We had a wonderful time collecting the flowers and enjoying the lovely fragrance that they produced. The children decided to bring the flowers that they had collected back to the classroom so they could incorporate them into their own art work.

Maybe if you are out and about over the weekend you might be able to keep an eye out for your own purple snow. It seems to be all over Adelaide at the minute. Watch out for those busy bees though!
