Mattingley

Dear Mattingley Room families and friends,

What a wonderful start to Term 1.  As we mentioned in our Weekly Diary we have strived to create a welcoming and sustaining environment in the Mattingley Room. Mattingley Room friends have spent the past couple of weeks exploring our space, both indoors and out, consolidating new routines and new friendships!

We have made ourselves known to our resident chooks and have collected the eggs on a few occasions.  We also give them our lunch scraps (when there is no chicken on the menu…..) and we make sure they have plenty of water too.

Wenting, our Chinese teacher, has introduced Chinese New Year in our lessons and we look forward to celebrating the Year of the Dog!

Due to the extreme heat we have been engaging in plenty of water play.  Lots of filling, pouring, floating and sinking, splashing, track making, and of course evaporation!  The children spent a great deal of time exploring the properties of water as well as the concepts of volume and capacity.  It was also a terrific way to practice social skills too—such as sharing and negotiating resources.

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Prest and Miss Boler
