Edgerley

Dear Edgerley Families,

We have had another busy and particularly noisy week this week continuing our investigation into ramps. This interest that began early Term Four continues to fascinate the children as they look at using ramps and creating ramps in different ways. This week the children decided to explore what would happen when vehicles went up ramps instead of down (hence the noise!). We created jumps for our vehicles and chose different landing points to aim for. Isaac B suggested that they looked like the ones at the skate park so we watched a video of people using skate boards and scooters at a skate park. We decided to create jumps with heavy card with varied success, it was definitely trial and error. We came much closer to our desired outcome after Lotti suggested some reinforcement under the jump.

We continue to discuss feelings, with anger being our focus this week. We talked about what happens when people are angry and read a book that showed how these feelings can be catching. If you are angry and mean towards another it makes them feel bad and more likely to be angry and mean in return. We talked about how positive words can make others feel happy instead. Brian suggested that when he was feeling angry he would like it if others could make him laugh to help him out of his grump! Great idea Brian!

We have begun play acting the story of Nian the Beast of the first Chinese New Year in preparation for our Chinese New Year celebrations. If your child has any items of interest or photos relating to either Chinese New Year or New Years Eve just passed we would love to see them for Show and Tell. Next Friday we are encouraging children to wear a splash of red to help us celebrate Chinese New Year.

Have a lovely weekend
