Mead

Dear Mead Room families and friends,

On Monday afternoon the ‘Living Eggs’ people arrived with a clutch of eggs ready for hatching. We set them up in the incubator in the Mead Room and waited…

Iverson – eggs inside

Quinn – When they warm up a bit, they’ll hatch

Charlie – eggs!

Charlotte – They’ll crack and the chicks will come.

Jack – 10 eggs

Imagine our surprise on Tuesday when we noticed little holes in some of the eggs;

Leonardo – They are trying to get out of the egg

Harry – peck!

By Tuesday afternoon we noticed a little chick!  It was still a little bit wet, it had only just hatched from the egg!

Ginger – They’re so adorable

Isla B – They hatcheded out!

When we had a few chickens hatched we moved them from the incubator to the ‘Brooder’ - where they will and grow and change while they are in the ELC.

Over the course of the next few days we have been excited to observe the changes taking place, more and more eggs hatched until we had 10 little chickens in the ELC.

Cody – They’ve hatched, 10 eggs!

Elsie – They’re sleeping…

Anwen – The chickens are colour yellow

Max – The yellow ones are boys and those ones (brown chicks) are girls.

Harry – If they eat food they will grow, grow, grow!

Take care of each other,

Melissa and Georgia
