Edgerley

Dear Parents,

We have continued to be busy bower birds this week in the Edgerley Room. On Tuesday we went for a walk around the Preparatory School collecting more sticks for our bowers. Not all our bowers hold collections of the stereotypical blue - some of the Edgerley bower birds have collected a different colour, or even rainbow colours! Our bowers are taking on great shapes and personality. Come and have a look!

We were very excited to welcome back Olivia who returned from time overseas in France and China. We look forward to hearing about her travels.

Monday was the Indian celebration of Raksha Bandhan. Yash shared with us how he celebrated this in his family, by giving his brother a special bracelet and eating delicious meatballs made by his mother. In the classroom we made bead bracelets for our brothers and sisters and watched a short video explaining the meaning behind Raksha Bandhan, being a day where brothers and sisters show they care for each other. The gift of a bracelet symbolises this love and care.

I care of my sister - Stirling
I tie the rope on my brother - Yash
I will make one for my brother. I think his favourite colour is blue - Nicholas Y

As we have been focusing on games with rules in our class, we further explored rules and why we need them.

Because you might do the wrong thing - Nicholas V
So we know how to play a game - Sebastian A
Because when we don't have rules we don't know how the games work - Karl
We won't know what to do - Will A
We might break things without rules - Stirling

This lead us to consider the question 'Is it OK to change rules?'

This received a unanimous answer of NO. Although Isaac S suggested it would be alright to change the rules of your own game if you were the one who made the game up. There are further discussions to be had!

Best wishes,
Emma and Mel
