Cooper

Dear Cooper families,

We have had another wonderful week in the Cooper room getting to know one another and becoming familiar with the new and engaging learning environments.

We had our very first trip to the library on Wednesday morning with Mr Coleman our librarian. The library was set up to look like an enormous pirate ship and we all had to walk a long wooden plank to get to our special reading nook. Each of the children had the opportunity to choose one story each to borrow and take home to read with their family. Encouraging children to choose their own books to read, supports their emerging interest and pleasure in sharing and reading stories in turn developing a strong foundation for their early literacy skills.

We have some very special additions to our ELC community this week! We are very excited to announce that the Mead and Mattingley classes have both successfully hatched 20 new baby chickens. On Thursday, we had the opportunity to visit and observe the new chickens in the Mead room. This was the dialogue taken from the children’s observations current knowledge on chickens.

Luci – They hatch out of eggs and we eat them.

Angus – Eggs crack and the chickens go and eat them.

Sebastian R – They go cock-a-doodle-doo.

Josef – They hatch out of eggs and then we can eat them then they can run to their mummies and daddies.

Luci – Chickens eat chicken food.

Archie – They go bock-bock.

Toby – They live with their mummy and daddy.

Eddie -  They have skin and hair and maybe feathers.

Mason – Chickens lay eggs.

Poppy – They snuggle and feel soft.

Yichen – They lay eggs.

George – They each chicken food. They lay eggs.

Poppy – They have a beak.

Josef – They are making noises. I am going to miss the chickens.

Nicholas – They are so cute. They are eating food.

The children were very keen to touch and hold the chickens, which we will be able to do next week.

Could you please let me know if you did not receive the weekly diary last week and I will update your email address on my contact list.

We hope that you have a lovely weekend.

Love Miss Gilbert and Miss C
