Wilkins

Drear Wilkins Family and Friends

What's got 20 eyes, 10 legs and a round body?

All sorts of different creature creations this week in the Wilkins room!

We had observed many of the children exploring the play dough and creating different animals and people over the last couple of weeks. Inspired by this interest, we added pop sticks, match sticks and googly eyes to the table this week and let the children explore. They eagerly moulded and squashed the play dough, added and took away different features and talked about what they had created, with their peers and educators.

I made a dolphin with google eyes - Beau
It’s Mummy - Lachlan
A giraffe - Zac
It’s a cockroach - Angus H
A birthday cake - Nicholas

Through this experience the children have developed their social skills - initiating interactions with their peers, sharing resources, negotiating and taking turns, using  their verbal communication skills to share their thoughts and ideas, listening to each other and sharing their enjoyment of the experience. Many of the children have been eager to keep their creations to show their family members so we have been photographing them for our gallery.

To support this in the future, we will extend this experience further using clay and different resource materials.

Best wishes for a lovely weekend,

Ellen, Courtenay, Melissa and Jess
