Mead

Dear Mead Room families and friends,

On Tuesday we had the amazing good fortune to have a visit from an inspirational woman, and two of her colleagues, all the way from Vietnam.  Trish is the CEO of Loreto Vietnam Australia Project, in Ho Chi Minh City, where she works with children.  We found out that some of the children Trish, Tam and Steph work with have special needs and most likely live in poverty.

The Loreto team works tirelessly to 'build up children's lives by providing many possible ways for a good education and exciting learning' (Trish).  We saw lots of photos of children who smile and feel happy or sad just like us, but they live a different life.

Angus – Some of the children don't have any toys.
Bernie – They had no books.
Harry – Some of the children couldn't see.
Lachlan – We drive to the ELC, some of the children had to walk a long way or ride a bike.
Angus – and they had dirty toilets.

Thankfully Loreto Vietnam provides funds for books, new kindergarten facilities and of course new toilets!  The Mead Room children were very open and honest with their observations and continue to talk about the children who live in Vietnam.

This week we have put our scientific expertise to good use by investigating light – predominantly the differences between transparent and opaque!  Wow! The Mead Room children are fantastic scientists: we tested our theories by using the overhead projector.  We noticed that light was able to go through some things… but not others, and when the light couldn't get through it made a shadow!!!!

Loukas – That dinosaur is opaque!
Harrison R – I am opaque!
Lily – Opaque! That's my 'L' and my hand too.

Have a great weekend.
