Dear Wilkins friends and families,
This week has been very wild and wooly outside so we have
been trying to keep warm with inside activities and some Workshop play. In
our classroom at the moment we have been exploring a special Unit of Inquiry
which started with some of our Wilkins friends being interested in Finding
Nemo. We have since explored fish of all shapes and forms, water, sand and
other kinds of creatures that live in or by the ocean. Last week on one of our
warmer days we did some water play with some beautiful sea shells. The children
were very inquisitive and began to talk amongst each other about what lives in
shells, so on the weekend a trip was made to the Nature Education Centre to
collect some Hermit Crabs. We have since had them out every day. Here is some
dialogue from around our sand pit:
Isla: Shhhh, he's going up the hill
Grace-Marie: Legs. Another one! Open! Different ones!
Teddy: "He's coming for my drink bottle".
Tom: "Crab! Crab!"
Leonardo: "Crab hide!"
Elsie: "See them at Bubba's beach".
Belle: "Maybe we can call Charli and Lola?"
Ginger: "They eat corn flakes?!" What?!" "Like
us?!"
Harvey: "They've got nippers"
Miss Renee has settled into our Wilkins room very well and
the children have enjoyed her activities! Something especially fun she has
organised has been the birthday playdoh table. The children have been
able to use glitter sprinkles, coloured straw candles and pipe cleaner
decorations! Many of the children have had discussions with us about their
favorite type of cake and how they get to lick to spoon at home with mum!
Over the last weeks we have welcomed some new members into class
and are very proud of how brave they have been. We look forward to getting to
know their families and following their journey in the Wilkins room.
We hope you all have a fantastic weekend and we will see you next
week. Also a gentle reminder that we are now required to wear our hats outside,
so if your child does not have one please look at purchasing one ASAP.
Mrs Jess, Miss Ellen, Miss Renee and Miss Kim
