Mattingley

Dear Mattingley Families and Friends,

We have had some very keen engineers in our classroom this week, with some fantastic structures going up everyday in our construction site. Our engineers have had to participate with others to solve problems and contribute to group outcomes. It hasn’t always been easy. We have had to call in a site manager from time to time to oversee the construction, however it has been truly wonderful to see the children working together on a project and seeing it through to completion. Through this play the children have been sharing their knowledge and understandings with each other deepening their experiences and growing together as learning group.

Roman: We need to make an airport. There are lots of paper planes. I have been in an airport. You catch the plane from there.

LeoIf people want to go inside they need to climb the stairs

WalterRockets take off from this airport too.

RomanThe cars go here so you can go on your holidays.

SamThese are the instructions so the children know what they are doing. It helps them know how to make it.

MarcelThe airport needs a police car. Then the badies will go.

RoyYeah if there are bad people the police will come.

We have been doing lots of exploration into letters and their sounds during the term. This week we added nametags to our writing table to encourage the children to begin making meaningful marks as they are drawing. We have also added new morning meeting tags so we can focus on starting sounds as we work out our job helpers.  We are aiming to support the children in being able to recognise the starting sound of their names and to begin recognising their names in print. This has resulted in a lot of letter searches throughout the classroom which has been lots of fun. A good place to find letters this week was on our light table.

JasmineHere is a ‘J’ for me, a ‘J’ for Josh and a ‘J’for James.

EdieThis is an ‘E’ for Edie. Now I got two.

We wonder how many letters you might find out and about on your travels this weekend?
