Hi Cooper families,
Unfortunately, we had to cancel our Sports Day this week as there were severe weather warnings scheduled for that day. The
children in the Cooper room have been itching to participate in this event as
we have been talking about Sports Day regularly and practicing for each of the
activities over the last few weeks. While it was all fresh in our minds and the
anticipation of Sports Day was at its peak, we decided to do a mini Sports Day
on the tennis courts. We sorted ourselves into teams and wore coloured paper
badges so that we could identify who was in which team. The children had a
blast participating in the running races and duck, duck goose alongside their
peers in the Mattingley class.
The storms and rain have been a popular topic
of conversation in the classroom this week following the extreme weather that
we have experienced in Adelaide over the last few days. These discussions have
led the children to paint pictures of “rain clouds”, “rain”, “lightning”,
“thunder” and “dark skies”. The paintings look amazing and help to represent
and express the children’s understanding of their observations of the weather this
week.
The ambulance-turned-fire truck in the town
square has been zooming around the ELC this week putting out all of the fires.
Through these sociodramatic scenarios it is nice to see different friendships
forming and the children’s social skills developing, especially when entering a
new play situation.
Monday the 3rd of October is a Public
Holiday and the ELC will be closed. Tuesday the 4th is the official start of
our Spring Holiday Program. I will be on holidays during this time, however,
Mr. Ty will be here to run the program in the Cooper room for the next 2 weeks.
If you need to contact me, please do so via email as I will still be checking
them regularly.
Please look at the sign in/out sheets outside
the Cooper classroom, there are many signatures that we still need from
previous weeks.
We hope that you have a wonderful long
weekend.
Love Miss Gilbert and Mr Ty
