Chapple

Hello Chapple families,
This week Chapple class expressed interest in storms and floods. One of the children brought in some clippings from the paper of the recent storms in Adelaide.  We read the book “FLOOD”, by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley.
This led to some very lively discussions where the children shared their knowledge of the weather.
The class also created their own artistic depictions of a storm and flood. They thought about using a similar technique as the artist from the book. They experimented with a few ideas before deciding on what to do. We looked at photos of storms, floods and lightning as provocation for the children’s art work and discussions.
They used white crayon on white paper marking it with zig zag lightning shapes, strokes and swirls then washed water colours over the crayon.  The combination of water colours placed onto the paper along with the crayon, proved mesmerising to the children revealing, the stormy flooding motion of their works of art.
We have also been creating jewellery using a combination of beads, buttons and foam stripy multi coloured beads with organic string practicing our fine motor skills and patterning.
The chickens laid 9 eggs over the weekend which just so happened to be the number for this week much to the children’s surprise.
After many conversations about lightning we attempted a science experiment creating static electricity. Using a comb the children brushed their hair vigorously then placed the comb over some tissue pieces which picked them up. It took a few tries…..till it worked.
“It’s like magic.” Hugo exclaimed.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Regards Ms Kerry, Ms Wegener and Miss Faye.
