Dear Parents and Friends,
We have had another full and exciting week in the Angwin
Room! The children have enjoyed tinkering with tools to undo an old CD player….
They keep checking that it is ok to undo it!! Lots of great collaboration and
problem solving is occurring. The woodwork table is also a hive of activity
during our time in the workshop.
We shared a beautiful story called “Little Tree” written by
Loren Long, that gently takes the children through the seasons. The children
have been responding to the illustrations at the painting easels and we have
discussed what the weather is like in each of the seasons….
Poppy: The
little tree didn’t want to drop his leaves but on the last winter he did. It
was cold and freezing.
Izabella: He
had new bright green leaves and one fell off that was orange.
Charlotte: The
little tree grew and grew. It got as big as the others. He helped to make a
forest to shade the animals when they were hot in the summer.
Liam: In
the Autumn the leaves fall off the Little tree. They fall onto the ground.
Our classroom mat has transformed into an amazing airport
with some deep and rich play, full of spatial awareness, problem solving,
imaginations, mapping and negotiation. The children have loved saving their
creations until the weekend… revisiting their work and modifying their designs each
day.
Harry
H:
Do you want a control tower to control the whole airport?
William: Ok
Harry
H:
Here it is.. it’s really tall!
Austin:
There are two planes
William: I’m the
boss, guys!
Harry
H:
Can the planes take off now?
Austin: I
know… we should build a ramp for the planes to come down!
Harry
H:
Here’s the bit that will be the hill to join on to the other ramp.
William: Put
the wood somewhere guys!
Sebastian: This
can be where the cars park (pointing to the roof)
Jack: I’m
building the planes
Harry
H:
When I went to the airport I saw actually there was planes outside.
William: This
could be the timer…
Harry:
Mine’s the 5:30pm one.. the Tiger plane.
Sebastian:
Mine’s the 8:30pm one… Singapore Airlines
Our friend Tommy has been keen to make police badges
following a visit from the Police officers at his other centre. Before long we
had amazing police badges and many officers helping to keep our ELC “safe”!
We have been enjoying some sunny days outside – mastering
tree climbing, setting out bike tracks, moving straw for the chickens and even
planting broad beans!
Wishing you wonderful weekends,
Kind regards,
Pip and Wenting
