Mattingley

Dear Mattingley Room families and friends,

We have continued our exploration of the concepts of safe and unsafe.
As we have balance bikes in the Workshop we asked what the helmets are for?

Makara – The helmet is for the bikes
Bea – You put it on your head

But…. why do we put it on our head?

Isla – So you don’t fall off
James – It will protect you. Your head, you might get a crack in your head

Oh, it protects your head. So how is that helping you to be safe?

Isla – Bones
Bea – It's your skull

And inside your skull?

Charlotte – Brains!
James – The helmet is hard

When we were in the outdoor environment this week Rupert heard an engine noise, and thumping. Some children thought it was the machines that are building the new Boarding House across the road, but we weren’t sure. So we climbed up the highest vantage point at our disposal, the climbing equipment, but we still couldn’t see.  So we took it in turns to peek through the (triple locked) gate.

And what did we see?

Rupert – Road works!

We watched the different machines working together and we noticed that the people that were working were wearing hard helmets too, but they weren’t riding bikes! Stay tuned.

We also noticed that the leaves on some of the trees in the Preparatory School are starting to change colour with the change of season, took care of our chooks, created expressions with natural materials and used our gross motor skills to negotiate the obstacle course!

Have a wonderful weekend,
From Melissa and Georgia
