Edgerley

Dear Parents,

The ice has continued to attract many keen 'tracks makers', as they have dug, chiselled and dropped warm water from droppers to create more marble tracks. Some children have even formed 'start' holes to place the marbles in, just like the starting positions for the winter olympians, and 'finish' holes for the marbles to end up in as they complete their ride down the tracks.

This week we began our Jolly Phonics program, beginning with the letter S. We read the letter S story and learnt the S song, using our arms to make a slithery snake 'S' as we sang. The children brainstormed so many words beginning with S.
Karl - sun, Samuel
Brian - slug
Isaac S - sun flower, super hero
Samuel - sunny
Thomas H - snake
Tom B - slide

As there have been so many keen builders in the Town Square who are permanently found at the large wooden blocks, this week we have offered a smaller construction challenge in the classroom. Using paddle pop sticks, glue and bottle tops, many of the children have had a go at creating a range of incredible structures. Some of them are houses for humans, while others are for animals. While Karl chose to create a tall, solid and sturdy structure, others such as Ed, Isaac B and Ned went for more contemporary designs. With the need to let glue set, the designs are regularly placed on top of our lockers until they will be added to again. Please do not take these home, as they are works in progress!

In Chinese the children have been learning about the names for animals. This has coincided with the children's interest in the Chinese zodiac animals, as they have begun to record which zodiac animal year they were born in.

Have a lovely weekend and best wishes,
Emma, Mel and Chris
