Edgerley

Dear Edgerley Parents,

This week we were lucky enough to learn lots about a celebration called Holidays with our student teacher, Valentina. Holidays is a very colourful three day celebration that Valentina’s family participates in, in India. She shared photos of people enjoying Holiday feasts and throwing coloured powders over each other. We weren’t quite brave enough to throw powder at one another (although I think some may have been very keen) so instead we used coloured inks and our pipettes to shower the easel with colour. We will use the paper we created together as a canvas later in the term.

We also continued to explore ramps, this week using coloured ice blocks to slide down the ramp covered in paper. It wasn’t quite as slippery as we thought and the blocks melted much faster than the huge ones we used the week before and this encouraged some discussion and hypothesising.

We continued to construct and talked about how people use buildings. Using pop sticks and bottle caps children created people and furniture for their little houses. We are now collecting shoe boxes so that we can further explore the idea of house dioramas.

This week there continued to be lots of discussion about friends, more specifically about how people can be friends but don’t need to be right next to each other all the time or think and do the same things. We read a book called “The Invisible String” by Patrice Karst about the connections of love and friendship between people. The children enjoyed this book and we re-read it a number of times. Next week we plan to begin a portrait project based around the book. Watch the space above our lockers as it begins to grow.

Have a lovely weekend
Mel, Emma and Chris
