Edgerley

Dear Edgerley families,

What a wild and woolly week we’ve had this week with lots of interests kicking off as well as lots of earnest discussions. The Edgerley children took the opportunity to talk about keeping our bodies safe and the concept of privacy this week. We traced the shape of Archie and then brainstormed how we keep our bodies safe and which parts of our bodies are private. This discussion will continue over the coming weeks to allow all children to participate. Come and have a look at Archie’s outline on the wall to see some of the things we talked about.

Another thread of this conversation was our discussions about feelings. We have been talking about different feelings for the last two weeks as well as singing a feelings song in response to the book Tough Guys (have feelings too) by Keith Negley. It has been wonderful to now hear the children being able to describe how they are feeling to their friends. Alexander brought a fantastic book for Show and Tell called In My Heart by Jo Witek that talked about feelings. We loved it and were thrilled to discover some new feelings that we could add to our song. We added brave, calm, hopeful and shy. The children decided that sometimes you can feel two feelings at the same time.

“When I’m jealous I’m actually angry too” said Rory
“And when your sad you can turn into angry” added Angus
“When you get a surprise sometimes it means you are scared too” said Caterina
We also discovered some new feelings words.
“Hopeful is another word for happy” said Rory
“Feeling silly is like feeling funny” said Charlie O
“If you say you’re are angry that is like cross, and that’s like the hulk!” said Louis

On Wednesday we sorted our feelings cards into ones that made us feel good and ones that made us feel bad and then began to talk about how to feel good after we have felt bad. So far we have come up with one strategy, solving the problem that made us feel bad in the first place, but we will continue to search for other ways to calm down and feel happy next week.

We have begun to prepare for Sports Day next week and have noticed that some children are listed in a different house than they felt they were in last year. Please check out the house cards on our classroom door and let us know if your child has been listed in the wrong house.

Don’t forget to indicate on the list on the wall behind our sign-in table whether your child will be attending ELC during the upcoming school holidays.

If you and your child participated in our Big Boys Breakfast superhero filming pop in and check out our movie on the big TV inside the café doors.
