Mattingley

Dear Mattingley Families and Friends,

This week we have continued to look at the process of paper making. Early on in the week the children finished ripping up the large amount of recyclable paper we had accrued. This gave us the opportunity to discuss what steps we would need to take to make the new paper. Each day we sat down and added a step to the list after some of the children had had a turn at making their piece of paper.

We agreed that the steps were

  1. Rip it –Elsa
  2. We put the water in the tub – Mack
  3. Mixer – Levi
  4. Pulp in the clean water – Kaeshav
  5. We got it out and put in on the frame –Teddy
  6. We peel it off the frame – Riani
  7. Roll it – Sarina
  8. Let it dry – Phoenix
On Thursday, some of the pieces had dried so the children had the chance to have a close look and touch of our new paper.

It’s a bit dry – Mack
Bumpy – Nathan
Easy to flat down – Lachlan

This hands-on experience continues to be a great way for us to talk about sustainability.

We also said goodbye to our Tortoise this week. Over the last two weeks we have shared with each other what we think and have observed the Tortoise do.

The Turtle eat so much food. He’s happy swimming. He likes seaweed and rocks – Sofia
I think he likes water – Abigail
He has a long neck – Harry
They are very shy if you touch their heads and bodies because they are so little and we are so big – Ari
They live where rocks are – William

Have a great weekend,

Cass and Liana
