Dear Families and Friends,
This week we have had some exciting visits and talks to consolidate our
learning projects over the past few weeks.
On Tuesday we also enjoyed a
visit from an ambulance. The children were fascinated to have a walk through
the inside of the ambulance, seeing all the materials ambulance officers need.
The most exciting part was sitting in the driver’s seat and having a go at the
siren. I’m not sure the Year 12's facing their exams felt quite the same way!
On Wednesday we had a very
interesting time hearing from Lochlann’s Dad about the work he does with
planes. He showed us many images of planes since their invention and how they
have changed. It was interesting to observe and talk about these differences.
He also talked to us about the special gear he has to wear and what he has
to do at the air base. Then he helped us make and test out our own paper
planes!
His visit was timely as a group of our boys have been creating a
Thunderbird base in our block corner! So much co-operation and rich negotiation
and planning has been happening!
On Thursday we were very
fortunate to have Billy’s mum come and help us plant a beautiful Crepe Myrtle
tree that their family has donated from their tree farm. Amy told us all about
the tree and how it had grown from a tiny seed and was 5 years old. We heard
about the importance of the roots and then we watched as Amy and Mrs Cooper
lifted it into the hole. Then we all helped to add the dirt around the hole and
then watered it in. We are looking forward to the shade it will give our ELC
garden, right near our water course over the months and years to come.
On Friday we have visited the
Tech Studies boys again to see how they are getting on with the bug hotel. The
big boys have been working so hard to finish the frame and start bringing all
the different elements of the project together. We can’t wait to see what has
happened next!
Our children have been continuing their transition visits, some of them up to our Prep
School and others to different schools and kindergartens. It is a
time when the children start to feel a little unsettled as they start to
realise the big changes that are on the way. It helps to talk about what is
happening and celebrate our time together with special events such as our lunch
box picnic. This was a huge success with the children trying out different
containers and thinking about the different types of food that are best to have in a lunch box. With the warmer weather on its’ way we have also
talked about how we need to keep the food cool and why this is important.
We are looking forward to the remaining few action packed weeks
together!
Kind Regards,
Pip and Coney
