Langley

Dear parents and friends,

This week in the Langley room we have been enjoying our new room set up. The learning environment is often referred to as the ‘third teacher’ following the children and adults themselves. Put simply this means recognising the importance of the physical environments our children play in, both indoor and outdoor, as being capable of either enhancing or interfering with children’s learning and independence.

We would welcome any suggestions from parents regarding this as you know best how your child likes to play/learn.

You may have also noticed some new plantings in the outdoor area that several Langley children eagerly participated in setting up. It is pleasing to see some children overcoming their feelings about getting dirty to lend a hand in creating our garden.

Thanks to Liam's dad, Matt (Wilkins room) and Tim for bringing in the Ambulance on Tuesday. The children were able to sit in the Ambulance, turn the siren on and slide down a slide they had made at the back of the Ambulance.

On Wednesday we tasted, felt and cut up some mushrooms, carrots, beans, potatoes, coconut, pomegranate, avocado, strawberries, kiwi-fruit, pineapple and rockmelon.

Miss Nicole held up the pomegranate and asked the children what they thought it was:
Rupert- It’s too big to be an apple
James- Pomegranate. We have these and Nan and Pops.
Rupert- It crunchy

Next Miss Nicole held up a kiwi-fruit:
Johnny- Kiwi-fruit

Miss Nicole asked the children what another vegetable was:
Ethan- A carrot
Rupert- The top is yucky
Amelia- hard

Several of our silk worms are now fully enveloped in their cocoons and we’ve all been marvelling at just how many leaves we need to collect to keep them fed. Thanks to Miss Georgia and the various groups of children for the ongoing supply of leaves and Miss Nicole for caring for them at her home over the weekends.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Miss Georgia, Miss Tayla, Miss Nicole and Miss Olly
