Dear Edgerley families,
This week was jam packed with new things to try and think
about. During Show and Tell Ed shared a dragon fruit with us. We were surprised
to discover it was white and spotty on the inside… and how did it taste?… just
ask us!
Nicholas was excited to share about his visit to his new school and
this sparked much discussion about where the five year olds in our class would
be moving to. Some of our five year olds have completed invitations to their
graduation for their family members so please remember to look in your child’s
pigeon hole at the end of this week or the start of next.
Hamish’s Dad visited
us with his ambulance, and although there was much to learn and experience, the
‘slide’ was definitely the highlight!
Our silk worms have finally begun to spin
cocoons which will give our mulberry tree a much needed rest! We were surprised
to discover that one cocoon was yellow. It was suggested that we ‘Google’ an
answer as to why this one is a different colour. Watch this space..
We also continued our investigation into
movement and momentum this week. You may have noticed our giant pendulum
painting on the floor of our classroom at the end of last week and if you
looked closely you will have seen how the paint had recorded the trajectory of
the cup, leaving a trail. This week we experimented with changing the
trajectory. Come and have a look and see if you can notice what is different
about the paint.
After brainstorming our own list of how we can move things we
created our own experiments. Inspired by the children who created fulcrum
catapults last week in the Town Square we designed new ways to move objects,
including ramps as well as a domino lines or chain reactions where we passed
momentum from one object to another.
Together we created a challenge where we
had to save a princess from a dragon using dominoes. Whilst we managed to slay
the dragon we are still yet to give the princess her freedom!!! Oh well, there
is always next week.
You will have noticed that Mr Richards was away with a
shoulder injury. We wish him a speedy recovery and are looking forward to his
return some time in the future!
Have a lovely weekend
Mel and Emma
