Langley

Dear Langley friends and families

This week we continue to enjoy watching and caring for our silk worms and also for the various vegetables we have been involved in planting and growing.  The children particularly enjoy picking and eating the snow peas and soy beans and will often pass them through the fence to their 3 year old friends and siblings.

James - They’re yum
Matthew - I washed it, now eat it

The children watched as a pumpkin was carefully carved and were invited to help remove the flesh and seeds which they later fed to the chickens. It was good to see children, who sometimes shy away from messier experiences, immersing their hands in the slimy centre.

Maple - It squish
Zain -  Ooh, cold
Liam - Miss Olly, a seed!

Role playing using a variety of costumes is proving very popular with the children and it is great to see them taking on roles and exploring themes they perceive as related to their clothing. This type of play creates opportunities for children to step outside of their usual persona and explore possibilities beyond that of their everyday experiences.

We also continue to use various materials to create visual art pieces. From painting, to printing, to collaging, every opportunity the children have to explore materials, tools and processes builds their creative confidence and skill. It is important for us as educators and caregivers to remember to step back and allow the children to produce things with the simple aim of enjoying the experience. “Art is doing, not the done.” (Fred Gettings)
Also important is celebrating their work, whether this means displaying it or simply verbally praising their efforts.

We continue to practice for our Nativity performance so please sing along with your children to ‘Twinkle, twinkle Little Star’, ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ and ‘Jingle Bells’ (first verses and chorus only) if and when you can.

Enjoy the rest of your week.
