Edgerley

Dear Parents,

What a strange week of weather. On Monday and Tuesday we survived the heat with lots of air-conditioning and water play, and then on Wednesday we dodged rain and thunderstorms!

We have enjoyed investigating motion and movement with some brand new marble run to explore, and at the painting easels with spray paint. In our water play we further investigated  motion with small boats and running water at our giant water fountain play.

Aiden - Look it's moving
Ed - That's 'cos the water's moving
Aaron - It makes the boat's move

As we are rehearsing for our Nativity, learning about the story of Christmas and with much talk about the Adelaide Christmas Pageant, we have begun making Christmas decorations this week. Using pop sticks and craft materials we have made reindeer to hang, and we have also begun creating clay Christmas surprises for our Mums and Dads. We can't give too much away!

Our silkworms are continuing to change and grow, and  have been busy spinning many cocoons. We are now waiting to see which moth will emerge first with great anticipation.

The Tuesday children enthusiastically participated in another social skills lesson about co-operation. In our lesson Archie had to co-operate with his friends and do a group project on the insect they chose (grasshoppers), rather than the insect he chose (stick insect). There were so many yellow and green reward cards received as the children voiced some thoughtful ideas and concentrated so well. It is encouraging to see so many Edgerley friends revealing an understanding that different situations evoke such a variety of emotions.

Aaron - His friends were disappointed because they wanted to do grasshoppers Will G -  He was cross because he wanted to do his insect right now
Lewis - He was angry 'cos he practiced doing his stick insect drawing and couldn't do it

Despite Archie feeling such emotions of anger and frustration, the Edgerley children brainstormed some wonderful ideas to help Archie in this scenario.

Lotti - He could play with his friends. He could use his words and say "I don't like getting laughed at"
Grace - He could talk to them about it
Stirling - He could tell the teacher, or just move away from there and find a friend that doesn't do that
Karl - He could ask another friend
Brian - They could get another piece of paper and copy Archie's (idea)
Aaron - He could take deep breaths (to calm down)

Best wishes,
Emma M, Mel and Emma G
