Dear Mead Room families and friends,
We keep trying to put away our numeracy
experience but to no avail. The children
have returned to this …………. time and again!
It has been wonderful to observe the children supporting each other to
identify numerals, discover other places that numerals can be found, connect
number names and numerals to the quantities they represent and use the natural
materials for 1 to 1 correspondence.
Counting our friends at Morning Meeting and locating the corresponding
numeral is a much treasured responsibility that is increasing in desirability
as the children’s proficiency progresses!
In the Mead Room we share many
stories. We not only read books, we
frequently use puppets and figures in our story telling, and often ourselves! We have a small story table set up to share
our own adaptation of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. As we did not have goats, or
a troll, we used our imagination and garnered the use of three different sized
river stones to represent the Billy Goats and a small length of wood to act for
the Troll. The children used their
creativity and agency to explore choices in story telling. The beauty of
retelling stories is that the children make it their own and can change it in
any way they choose!
Zahli – I'm only little, ok over you go, so
trip trap over there. Then the next one bounced up and the Troll said, ‘Who was
that crossing my bridge?’, and it said, ‘it was me only little!’
Teddy – I am the troll in the deep, dark
hole!
Anwen – ..and he fall off the bridge!
Have a terrific weekend.
Melissa and Georgia.
