Mead

Dear Mead Room families and friends,

We have planted our pair of late fruiting tomatoes!
First we had to prepare the bed, 2 holes to be dug.. many hands make light work! We looked at the roots, and teased them out so that they would grow healthy and strong in the earth.  Isla was a bit surprised Mrs Prest would ‘tease’ the roots;
Isla DG - “Oh Mrs Prest, that’s not being kind.”
We planted them, and patted down the earth.
And then the watering festival commenced!
Alfie’s quest for tomatoes led the children to connect with the ELC outdoor environment in a meaningful way.  To take an active role in caring for the environment in this manner supports them to become environmentally aware and mindful of their responsibilities.
We will pay attention to the needs of our plants, ensuring that they have sufficient water, and we might even talk to them!    We will look for other ways to embed sustainability in our daily
routines and practices.

We have some teeny, and not so teeny, friends visiting the Mead Room at the moment.  The Mead Room is hosting some black, white and yellow striped caterpillars who are growing at an alarming rate!  One began its metamorphosis quite soon after arrival, he was extremely large in comparison to his room mates!
What can you see when you look inside the caterpillar enclosure?
Isla B – I see gold spots (on the chrysalis)
Thomas – little, tiny
Rupert – He’s eating a tree!
Leonardo – Black, yellow and green stripes.
Jimmy – The caterpillar is eating some leaves, its got yellow stripes, and black, the green thing hanging up there is a chrysalis, a butterfly will come out.

We also went up to the Rainbow Playground (in the Preparatory School) to investigate what all the fuss is about regarding the Clipsal car race……..
Alfie – It was very loud. It was ok, we went on the big castle, the big slippery dip.  I was standing up it, I couldn’t see it, just a bit.
Harvey – Mrs Prest picked me up – I see’d the blue one, only the top.
Teddy – The racing cars, two racing cars a red one and a blue one.
Anwen – I see a car, a noisy car!
Leonardo – I hear them roaring.

Have a terrific weekend.
