Cooper

Hi Cooper families,

We have been experimenting with cause and effect on the wooden ramp in the Cooper room this week using a range of round shaped materials. At the end of the ramp we have placed a number line from 1 to 10. When the children rolled down the various materials down the ramp they the children had to identify number that it landed on. Initially the children rolled objects from around the classroom and then they started to use the machines that they had created from the Mobilo. Some of the machines rolled further than others depending on how it was rolled and the position of the wheels.

The children have loved the number line in the classroom and often count and identify the numbers on the line with their peers. During group time this week, we used counters as a visual aid to show the quantity of each number on the line going from 1 counter to 10 counters. Each child had the opportunity to count out the appropriate number of counters. The children helped to support their peers in the counting process, using one to one correspondence as we identified the number and count out the counters.

Tuesday was Shrove Tuesday which signifies the beginning of Lent. As a part of this cultural celebration we made pancakes as a class and cooked them on the BBQ outside. They turned out well and were delicious!

We have been testing our fine motor skills through a beading experience in the classroom this week. The children confidently chose a bead and placed it on the thin skewer. Come children sorted and classified the beads before they threaded them, while others created colourful patterns using the beads.

On Friday the children were keen to check out the cars at the Clipsal. We could hear the load zooms as the cars raced across the track. We walked all the way up to the Prep school reception classes as that is the best place to see them. We couldn’t see them from the fence, however, when we stood on top of the playground we could make our some of the cars zooming past. Even if we didn’t see many cars, we could certainly hear them!

We hope that you have a lovely weekend.
