Dear Wilkins friends and families,
We have had a wonderful week this week, playing in the sun, making
new friendships and exploring the new experiences in our classroom. Our new
children have loved feeding our class geckos, frogs and new spiny leaf insects.
Spiny Leaf Insects are usually found on Eucalyptus, but are also known to eat
Oak, Bramble, Hawthorn and even Raspberry and Rose bushes. The body is around
5-10cm long and is covered in sharp spines and flattened edges called flanges,
making the insect appear leaf- like. The children have enjoyed observing the
insects and wonder if they might have some in their gardens at home?
This week we have been working on our balance and coordination. We
made a line down the middle of the large mat in our classroom and used
this as our 'balance beam'. The children balanced bean bags on their heads and
walked very carefully and cautiously down the line until it fell off. The
children waited patiently and clapped as each child took their turn. We have
also moved things around in our outdoor area and made an obstacle course. It
has been wonderful watching as the children take risks and challenge their
limits to achieve new things!
Sadly, we say goodbye to Mrs Nicole as she goes to have her third
baby! We cannot wait to meet him or her and wish her all the best. Thankfully
Mrs Nicole won't be missed for too long as she will be bringing Sylas to
school and Mason to Langley room.
We hope you all have wonderful weekends and look forward to seeing
you next week.
Mrs Jess, Mrs Nicole, Miss Ellen, Miss Georgia and Miss Kim
