Dear
Mead Room families and friends,
This
has been an ‘investigating’ week!
Our
Mead Room café has been a hive of activity – we have added a rich array of literacy-related materials, creating an
environment where the children could experiment with print, developing their
understanding that writing conveys meaning by actively taking on the role of
‘literacy user’ in their play—writing down orders and using menus.
And we
have discovered a special symbol too.
We
noticed a box in the Mead Room we had not noticed before. We inspected the box and observed that it had
a symbol on the side – 3 arrows in the shape of a triangle.
Mikayla – We have those arrows
at home
Danica – 3 arrows means
recycling
James – recycling means
don’t throw it away
So we
looked closely and found out that all our paper waste can go in this box. We had a look around the Mead Room and found
some paper that had been used. But what
other things are made of paper?
Jonas – a box
Flynn – brown paper and
white paper
William R –
newspaper
We
popped them in the ‘Recycling’ Box!
We
decided to see where the box should be emptied and made our way to the service
yard to investigate.
We went
on to find the ‘3 arrows’ everywhere!! Glass, Plastic and Tin cans too.
We
observed, sorted, read the symbols and found that ‘just rubbish’ sometimes has
a symbol too!
Congratulations to Leo Witkowski from the Mead Room, (and his Mum
and Dad, Maciej & Sophia!) on the birth of Felix Alexander! Leo is now a
big brother!
Enjoy
your weekend!
From
Melissa, Elodie and Rosalie
