Edgerley

Dear Edgerley Parents,

In our room this week the children have been fascinated in how quickly and tall our plants are growing. They have discovered that the plants drink water through the roots and stem  and need sunlight and water to grow. They are the best cared for plants with many keen gardeners attending to their needs on a daily basis.

Our discussions have had a large focus on our families, who is in them and how special they are to us. Please come and have a look at the wonderful family portraits the children have drawn.

Our yoga sessions with Miss C have taken on a whole new level this week as we have our very own new set of yoga mats for the Edgerley Room. The children begin their yoga sessions with stretches before moving to their yoga poses. Everyone has their favourite pose and we are learning new poses on a regular basis!

I love 'Downward Dog' - William P
I like the 'Garland Pose' - Lexie
I love doing 'bridge' - Elyssa
I like 'cat pose' - Sebastian
I like doing 'plank - Henry

After our yoga poses we do breathing exercises, followed by relaxation. Our yoga sessions are such a valuable means for developing body awareness, learning how to manage stress and building concentration.

In Chinese this week the focus has been on body parts, colours and the parts of our faces. Lao Shi has been mixing up the familiar songs the children have learnt by heart to try and check for real understanding, and the Edgerley children have been excelling!

The children have been fascinated with our new baby stick insect that has joined our room and have decided to call him "Mr Climby", as he climbs the leaves all day! The children shared their knowledge on stick insects and we had some interesting discussions around camouflage. We were amazed to find a skin that had been shed by Mr Climby at the bottom of it's home and noticed that Mr Climby was missing a leg and wondered if he would grow a new one.

They hang onto leaves - Lexie
They change like a stick so nothing can eat them - Charlie O
They have 6 legs. But this one only has 5 - Rory
People grow skin - Charlie O
Star fish grow back arms - Sebastien
A lizard grows back a leg - Rory
The skin has got it's (Mr Climby's) old leg - Lexie
They eat gum leaves - Archie
Snakes eat stick insects because theyhave special googly eyes - Sebastien
It's invisible - Rory
It's kind of like being invisible - it's called camouflage - Mrs McKenzie

Come and check Mr Climby out on our room!

Best wishes,
Emma, Mel, Cristina and Satin
