Dear Cooper
families,
Much to the
children’s delight, the chickens were out of their coop on Wednesday and
Thursday morning. We have been having conversations with the children on how we
take care and treat the chickens especially when they are outside their
coop. We have organised to hatch our
very own chickens in the Cooper room in week 7 of this term. This is a
fantastic opportunity for the children to see the hatching process and look
deeper into our inquiry on how chickens hatch and how to care for
chickens.
The children have
been engaging in many different imaginative play scenarios throughout the week.
Through this type of play we can see the children beginning to develop strong
and caring relationships with their peers. Through this experience the children
are demonstrating their ability and interest in engaging in symbolic play which
is the ability to use open ended resources to represent a different object.
Symbolic play is crucial in developing early literacy as it is a platform in
which children can create a fictional world to tell their stories. It was
wonderful to see the children respond so positively to each other’s ideas and
actions during the week.
We would also like
to say goodbye and good luck to Declan whose last day at our ELC was on
Wednesday. It has been lovely getting to know you and seeing the wonderful
friendships that you have developed over your time at the ELC. We will all miss
you very much!
We hope that you
have a wonderful weekend.
Love, Miss Gilbert
and Mr Ty
