Dear Cooper
families,
On Monday when we
were looking at the eggs that had been collected from the chickens in the
outdoor area, one of the eggs dropped and fell on the floor. The outer layer of
the egg cracked and we noticed that the liquid that was oozing out of the egg
was “gooey” and “sticky”. We brought the egg back to the classroom to have a
closer look. As a class we tried to identify the different parts of an egg.
The outer layer of
the egg is called the… “shell” - Royce.
The yellow part is
called the… “yolk” - Lotti.
And the clear part
is called the white of an egg.
We then read a
story called “The big egg” and noticed that chickens are not the only animal
that lay eggs.
Following on from
last week, we have been feeding the chickens our salad scraps each day. This is
a very exciting time of the day for many of the children in the Cooper room.
Through this experience the children are demonstrating care and respect for
other living things and their environment.
Over the past 2
weeks the children have been identifying different colours around the classroom
and talking about what happens when you mix two colours together. These
discussions led us to swap our acrylic paints and paintbrushes at the painting
easels for ink, water and tee pipettes for a colour mixing experience. The
children used their observational skills to identify the cause and effect
relationship when they squirted ink onto the paper.
We had our very
first P.E session in the Prep School Gym with Mr Barton today. The children had
an absolute blast jumping, hopping, balancing, throwing, catching and running
during our session this morning. Our P.E sessions will be held on Fridays this
term, sorry about the confusion earlier in the week.
Happy Birthday to
Alexander who turned 3 this week.
We hope that you
have a lovely weekend.
Love, Miss Gilbert
and Mr Ty
